Great songwriter and one of the best storytellers of all time. Man, I love Steve Poltz.

The greatest thing about this rendition is the care with which he sings it. Very often people play John’s songs too quickly (me included). When you do that, you lose all the nuance of John’s performances. Steve really lets this song breathe and it’s beautiful.

OH MY GAWDS! THE PHOTOS!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 They ARE online if you Google them! What an incredible story teller…I was riveted the entire video. Used to sing these songs with one of my most favorite people in the whole world while he played guitar in the early 2000’s. This just made all of those already incredibly nostalgic memories even more nostalgic. Thank you for sharing this!!!!🖤

Ever since these guys released “Songs of Surrender“ (which took everything good they’ve ever done and made it significantly worse) I’ve been baffled by their motivation. But considering the pandemic was long and lonely for all of us, I figured maybe they were just bored and needed to do something. I was totally fine with it. Having said that.. After seeing clips like this emerge from the Sphere, I’ve become increasingly convinced they seem to be deliberately shitting on their legacy. Considering the fact I’ve been a massive U2 fan since the first time I heard Bad on the radio in 1984, I take no pleasure in saying this. But virtually every Sphere clip I’ve seen hasn’t just been bad. They’ve been *shockingly* and *embarrassingly* awful to the point I couldn’t even finish the videos. If someone told me this was a shitty U2 cover band in Iowa on a Tuesday night, I would believe it. Why on earth they would willingly do this to themselves is just heartbreaking to me.

I was at an Ani concert at Wolftrap in northern VA that was the opposite. The crowd *sat* for the whole set. It utterly killed the vibe. Gave nothing back to her. I tried to set a precedent, but got self-conscious about being the only one up. I still think that I should have been better Ani inspired and thought F*** them, let's vibe.

beautiful song, tragic in its truth, more meaningful now than ever. Ani nails it in this performance.

ani! why did ypu decide not to keep playing this during tour this summer...!? tis such a great song and woulda only got better sounding as you played it more + jammed it with the boys. i been taking a whole lotta time tonight perusing setlists of yours from this year (waay too much time... square eyes for me...) and it looks like this may be the only time you played this great lil ditty (or one of very few times).... :(

You can tell Ani is annoyed by the singing crowd. She has long been annoyed by it. You think anyone there came to hear the audience sing? Hmmm? I think she should only sing deep cuts and/or brand new songs for which the words are unknown to the drooling crowd.
