8.99 for 2 only 5 years ago. now they're double that locally and 20-40 on amazon for that size. Almost all the ones on amazon are the "kokanee" or mini size which is about the size of a chapstick. even the single rigged 4" is around $12 locally. I'm seeing knockoffs too but they're nearly the same price

Been using the little Brad’s Kokanee cut plugs for kokes and trout and picked up the bigger ones for fall salmon. Wasn’t sure how to set them up, but I will give this a try. Thank you for the good explanation of the hook tying method!

What are your suggested size and colors of Brads cut plugs??
@bayareaangler5103 Жыл бұрын
I always used the full size ones. The colors that worked best seemed to change from week to week, but a few that were consistently good were "Black Jack" and "Double Take". In the early morning before the sun was too bright, "Glow Bloody Nose" or "Glow Ghost Green Dot" seemed to produce.

I agree with the non flourecarbon lines. Not needed. Never bought into the line insecurity of thinking it matters for salmon. It’s 99% gimmick in my opinion.

Good video ! Does the hook attached by rubber band affect the spin ?
@bayareaangler51032 жыл бұрын
No, when I drop it in the water, the action is still as it should be
@littlegoobie2 жыл бұрын
I've had these lures since they hit the market and this is same way i've had to do it - by running the line through the band. If you rig it the way the company recommends, you'll lose that rubber band tubing and whatever you have inside the lure every time you get a fish and then some because they randomly open up too. If you want to keep it loose, you can space out the hook with beads and tubes to push the hook back behind the rubber band.

Thank you for this video. Just returned from silver salmon fishing Valdez Alaska. Tied up the brads the way you suggested. Put them behind Dixie diver/flasher/snubber. Yesterday we averaged one silver per half hour trolling. All on board except myself new to trolling. We had 14-16 solid strikes and 11 silvers plus 2 pinks for total of 13 fish landed. Never ever had that close to 100% landing rate even with my fishing buddies who have trolled for salmon for many many hours We even had 2 double hookups with one of those both fish got on board the boat Thank you again

The needle points dont cut a hole in the fishes lip like the cutting point. This is a great set up - I redid about a dozen Brads this way. Be nice to see you do a video on scents, fillets etc., maybe even do details on flasher bumper length strength & rigging. On party boats its pretty much in line flashers behind weight releases but Ive got at least a dozen different pattern flashers & think its a far better presentation.

Do you still think this is the best way to tie them?
@bayareaangler51033 жыл бұрын
I do. Only time i’ve had a problem with this setup is when I used a leader that was tied a couple seasons ago, in which case, any leader may break with older and more brittle line.
@pancakeface57173 жыл бұрын
I like that the rubber band stays with the leader. Otherwise those babies have a knack for disappearing.

So what’s point of doing egg loops knots ? Can I just do snell knots on those two hooks ?
@bayareaangler51033 жыл бұрын
The forward hook uses the egg loop to hold the rubber band in place. The back hook you could use a regular snell if you want. I just thought it's easier to do the same knot 2x instead of different knots for each hook

Can u show us ur setup when just casting ?
@bayareaangler51034 жыл бұрын
I've never used them for casting. They are fairly light, so i'm not sure if they would even work for casting. I have heard of people using a sinker with a swivel a couple feel above the weight and then clipping a snap onto the line with a leader going to a cutplug and letting it "trolley" down the line until it hits the swivel.

The first button is just callibrating, NOT tell you that there's a stud... After it does its initial setup then you start sliding around.
@bayareaangler51034 жыл бұрын
There is only one button, so I don’t know what you mean by the first button. The directions say to place it on the wall and press the button wait for it to calibrate and then slowly move it. The problem is it beeps right from the get go and never stops as though it is on top of a stud.
@latoyalewis79543 жыл бұрын
You have to move it along the wall. You are taking it on and off the wall. The first time you click the button, it’s just calibrating. Once it beeps, you drag it along the wall to find the stud. I know this is late was having the same issue at first.

Dew. 1 tip I just saw & liked - go to grocery store and buy a tube of anchovie paste (instead of canned tuna), clean & ez. Thx. Watched all your vids and this set up is the 1 Im trying this Spring.

What do you think of a 4 /O circle hook to be used?
@bayareaangler51035 жыл бұрын
Steve Nelson I’ve never used circle hooks while trolling. In California ocean waters they are required if you are mooching, but for trolling you’re free to use any single (barbless) hook, so I never saw a reason for using circles with cut plugs.
