No, I made a frame for it and hung it on my bedroom wall. :)

Hi, I have the same puzzle but im stuck and and dont know what to do ...I have 2 pieces that dont fit anywhere (im still doing the "frame" (the outer part) and im left with 2 pieces... both sides are 40 pieces , the bottom is 73 and top 75 but these 2 pieces dont fit anywhere in the bottom...
@ArmasLahtaaja3 жыл бұрын
I was having similar difficulties for a long time, but got it right at last. It sure felt like there was something wrong with the pieces... I can't remember anymore, but probably I mixed up some side pieces with bottom pieces. The differences in the colors and shapes are sometimes very subtle. Also see my comment below on the cut pattern.

@ArmasLahtaaja4 жыл бұрын
@@MsJetaime6 The cut pattern repeats; the left side pieces have the same shapes as the ones on the right side - so you might accidentally misplace some pieces on a wrong side, since they are almost perfect fit there too. Color changes are often minute so have some good lighting.

+Gilbert Chircop You will just have to try it. It might be a little small but might work, I have no idea. If you have some ball bearings to use with your sander, they will probably help because they reduce the friction a lot. I made my sander from whatever I had - and I had no money to buy parts for it. It was never a great machine and has a lot of limitations, but it still gets the work done.

All I can say is they must just be jealous of what you have come up with. You can even go up a little more in size if you want too. Thumbs up.

@blee35099 жыл бұрын
Good design except for the rubber band applying the tension to the belt. Rubber band does not have enough force. I would modify the design to use extension springs on each side to provide more force. The springs would also last longer than the rubber band which loses it strength with time.
@mikkosutube9 жыл бұрын
+steve ling put more rubber bands if necessary, the surface area of the sander is so small that the resistance would be negligable
@ArmasLahtaaja9 жыл бұрын
Yes there is absolutely no problem with using rubber bands. The force needed is very easy to adjust by the amount and/or length of the rubber bands.
@learnerlearns9 жыл бұрын
That certainly demonstrates the viability of the design. The ease with which you hoisted that heavy lumber cart is impressive!

I have seen a bunch of these videos on youtube. But why do people not use a router? I'm thinking of making one for the large sanding belts. Would a router be better for that?
@AztekKen10 жыл бұрын
Not many people have routers :) and drills are more common.
@puddingpimp10 жыл бұрын
A router spins at something like 30 thousand RPM. I wouldn't make a pulley out of wood and attach it to a router. What you might try is getting an RC model brushless motor with a low kv (rpm/volt) and running it at a low voltage, but I suspect once you add up the cost of the LiPo battery and ESC, it's cheaper to just buy a cordless or plugin hand drill. The only downside to using a hand drill is they have brushed motors which wear out with continuous usage, at least until hand tool manufacturers get with the 21st century and start using brushless DC motors.
@ItsaboutMakingnotBuying10 жыл бұрын
puddingpimp DeWalt makes brushless DC motors.
@ArmasLahtaaja10 жыл бұрын
This machine was made out of what was available - and I do have a few cordless drills from recycling center. Actually from their trash bin. Thrown away because they had no working batteries. Router I use for routing... And as noted above, router motor would be far too fast for a sanding machine. But, the point for my little machine - which is not in any way perfect - is that you can make one up from whatever you happen to have around you. Maybe the best things in my version are tensioning with ordinary rubber bands - works great at least with such a small sanding belt - and the use of a discarded drill and it's chuck. Definitely the table is the worst part of it - it is only supported from the center. That's why now it has the table replaced; but I do still use the machine and it works well enough so that I have not yet made a new one.

If it were a tutorial you might have a point but to be honest I would rather see more tutorials made in the fashion of this video, which is short and to the point (and almost tutorial quality) and I don't have to listen to someone drone on forever as though they'd never realized they could edit things out of their videos. Just my opinion as I gleaned quite a bit from this video myself.
