Strobe lights would be the worst call for a good warning signal. The flash is too brief for easy accurate assessment of distance and (relative) motion. The phasing on these vehicles also looks confusing which in poor light can increase observing motorists' workload as they subconsciously try to figure out what is happening. Phasing is ideally bi-laterally symmetrical with an inboard to outboard flash sequence for groups of lights or light bars, or all lights phased in unison. A warning signal is to convey information and increase visual impact and road safety for all; not a Christmas tree display to impress a drunk 5 year old.

@@dagwould I agree with you, but strobes on emergency vehicles usually adequete for warning signal. I own 2 full size strobe lightbars from Whelen (a reputable and good quality manufacturer) and they are EXTREMELY bright while also having a fixed pattern as you described. It is hard to capture the pattern on camera due to the speed of the strobe, but to the human eye it is more than enough.

it has a lot to do with the space available, or rather lack of space, for installation in modern vehicles, if theres not a lot of room sometimes they have to mount the speaker driver (magnet bit) away from the speaker 'cone', instead of having them attatched to each other normally, and make up the difference between with a sound pipe, like a hoover pipe of sorts for sirens. this loses a lot of the audio volume in between. it also depends on the size/shape of cone fitted for how much grille space you have for your install as to how well it can project the sound, so if you have a speaker driver right at the back top of the engine bay with a long sound pipe to the grille and a flatter style cone you get a lot of losses in volume and projection.

Anti Terror stuff I believe airport related They were deployed for the 2011 Riots in convoy when the boss finally got the green light to spend money to bring the riots under control.
