Are you familiar with Art Storefront? If so, are they a good way to go for a website?
@SophieMahir2 күн бұрын
Yes I've heard of this, but don't have any personal experience with it...I guess I like to stick to the bigger sites that have been around for ages and integrate with most things wee need these days...Let me know if you use this and like it! :)

I would like to focus on originals, high quality prints, a course, and a membership. I've got a lot of decisions to make first - like which niche I want to narrow down toward.
@SophieMahir2 күн бұрын
Hi Sherry, yes it's all about defining a clear niche for yourself and from there I always advocate starting one income stream at a time, building in others once the first one is up and running...
@sherryjoycollier20244 күн бұрын
Wow, your advice makes so much sense. I had kind of heard this as a beginning acrylic painter, but I ended up doing paintings of flowers, beach scenes, botanicals, and landscapes. I find that currently, my social media (FB) followers seem to prefer landscapes, but I'm not sure it is my favorite (I tend to be drawn to painting flowers). I can understand choosing one, getting better and better at it and using it to target a specific audience. At this point, do I choose landscapes because that is what my current audience seems to like? Do you choose the niche that has the most income potential? or do you choose the niche that best fits with my current passions?
@SophieMahir2 күн бұрын
HI Sherry - Oh hands down you should do what you LOVE and your audience will follow you there (or not and that's ok too). Your passion will come across in your work and for me it's about being authentic with who we are as creatives...If you are drawn to flowers then love every moment of painting those! Very excited for you. x

I appreciate your videos and they have been very interesting, but I feel like the title of this is misleading as 2/3 of this is just using the same platforms put your art on different products, which is literally just the same thing.

As an artist who does not like social media anymore, (quit trying to grow an art account after 5 years without an audience) I think it is really important to find a way to promote ourselves without the standard of 'number of followers' and being actively posting content for the people rather than ourselves. It's hard to do so in this era, but we hopefully we can succeed.

Thank you - this is inspiring!! =) I've been watching a lot of videos about reaching your target audience without using social media & there's actually a lot of great ideas! I just decided to create an ARt Blog on my website. I'm excited by the thought of being able to post whatever and whenever I like (and not have to be concerned about 'followers'!) Starting an art blog is a great idea - and i hope will help bring potential customers to my website! ♡

A very helpful video. I currently have a WIX website but find it unnecessarily complex and it's very difficult to contact useful help. I'm wondering about Square Space but want to keep the same website address - can I do this once I've deleted my WIX account?
@SophieMahir24 күн бұрын
Hi - If you are thinking of switching over, I would contact SquareSpace and ask them how you can easily move your site over - I'm sure they will be delighted to help!!

I loved all your tips, thank you. I will be doing my very first Facebook Live on the 23rd of October 2024 and can't tell you how many videos I've watched and research I've done to get information on how to do it well. My live is about Christian Expressive Art and I'll be running it over two days. A one hour session each day and a weekend in between to give participants time to do their art activities. A question I have is how to toggle between my computer camera and the camera pointing to my creative space, where I will be demonstrating the art activity. I would appreciate any advice you have for me. Thanks, Mariëtte

Yet, when I look at art history, I don't see this narrow focus among so many top name artists. There are many top name artists who did not focus on one type of art. Picasso was a painter, sculptor, ceramicist, did prints & also worked in numbers of different art movements including his own invention of Cubism. Matisse painted, & was a printmaker, & did stained glass windows. Chagall did painting & ceramics, stained glass, & more. Michelangelo painted & was a sculptor. Gustav Klimt painted figures/ portraits, large mural commissions for institutions, & landscape painting. Louise Bourgeois did large scale installations, sculptures (out of diverse materials, such as metals, but also, sewn fabric), & drawings. Isa Gentzken's art included sculpture, photography, found-object installation, film, drawing and painting. Robert Rauschenberg worked in painting, sculpture, prints, photography, and performance. Cy Twombly was a painter & sculptor. Etc, etc. ????

Best way! Just be the best you can be, love what you do, have fun, believe in yourself and the world will come to you or at least the part of the world that is ready to. Artists did this for generations and it worked - even if they lived far away from big cities with critics and art magazines. I’m a big believer in vibrational marketing. Anything else is secondary and for fun. 💖 When we expect success to be inevitable it is but always remember your joy and happiness is true success. Money will always follow and more easily if we don’t struggle. It took me a while to understand that. Gifts and inspiration come more easily when you don’t struggle and other people will want to market you and collect your work. Passion can help focus but struggle is never necessary if sometimes a choice for many people. And everybody gets to choose for themselves and what feels right for them. Being light and easy and playful and allowing flow and inspiration may be even more powerful and more fun. When you know there is no competition and only inspiration and are true to yourself success comes effortlessly and people are naturally drawn to you. 🖌️✨🌸🦋✨

I posted my art on Instagram and forgot about it. 2 years later, I have 30,000 followers. The problem; my followers think I am a sugar daddy or a good time charlie. People like my art but, they or not there for that, they want to get access to my 30000 followers to grow their follower count. "Ain't that a kick in the head!"

Hello Sophie ! Me again ! Just a quick question, I'm going to revive a Instagram account that I barely used. The content is still on visual art although before I was into painting and now in the book illustration business. Before, I never really picked an audience so I have very few followers and a little bit of everyone there. Should I revive the account and pick a clear audience or start over according to you ? Thank you so much !

Thank you for your informative video. I'm trying to get away from social media and build a different way of selling again. Pre-covid i was selling at galleries, etc, but then I had to take a long break and only just started up with painting again. Last time, i relied on social media to reach galleries, but i am now driven away from those platforms mostly because of the AI training from our uploads. I have further read that the art is still not safe from AI scraping even on our own websites. Do you have any recommendations for that at all?
