I broke my right wrist a couple of months ago, and was sidelined for a while. Becoming a little stir crazy, I decided to try lefty (my non-dominant hand). At first I was quite terrible, but, as you state, the learning curve is much shorter than when I first took up disc golf less than 2 years ago. I now have, after almost a month, perhaps 60 to 70% of the distance, and perhaps 50% of the accuracy I had rhbh. Progress, certainly! And it gets me out. I’ve got to think that incorporating the left hand will become a bigger part of my game in the future, as an alternative to my rather weak right handed forehand, which is really just a short flick in my case. Options! Thanks for your video. I enjoyed it.

Sounds like soon you’re gonna be a secret weapon on the course, there can’t be many people that have good backhands on both sides.

I decided to give lefty a try after seeing someone at a league day pull it out. It took about a few weeks of field work in the park before I started playing it in casual rounds, and about 2 months before I was confident using it competitively. My forehand is decent, and I still use it in certain situations, but it is great having the left hand option too. It feels like a cheat code on some holes. Plus it makes the game more fun learning something new. Also I sucked hard when I first tried it, so don't let that put you off. Stick with it and it will click eventually.

My forehand (as a right hander) is plenty good compared to my backhand. But I've tried learning myself a left hand forehand just because of scramble efficiency. A forehand is way easier to reach out and snap away compared to doing some patent pending backhand shot. 🤷♂

So how big is the disc golf community where u live? Is there a decent amount of tournaments and stuff? Just curious
@bholedgАй бұрын
Where I live im probably the only player within a 30 minute radius, but there’s a decent amount of players in the midlands, so probably a tournament every 2 weeks pretty much, often people will travel quite far.

Great video!!Definitely running is very underrated when it comes to disc golf warm up, and even a full body warm up is something pretty rare to see, and i definitely agree that this is the right way to do it. (even though sometimes its not really possible because you are in a rush, but i like to do a proper warm up at least once in every couple rounds and that keeps me on the right track )

@bholedg that would be great. It would be really useful if you could show the basics on a specific hole. Grip for both forehand and backhand, how to assess what type of shot needed..what to do if the disc is swerving one way etc. Basically a noob 101 style

Ben this makes so much sense. Just watched a PMcB throw from behind. He comes in and out too. What I love about disc golf is that every time I think I’ve “got it”, I go out there and I just can’t seem to generate power. I’ve been doing out then in all this time. It just kills the momentum. But I’ve never realised it. This form review is Gold. Many thanks.

Not correct on KJs backhand. Drill everyone should see. This guy was Paul mcbeths coach. He can throw 400 feet from a standstill kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKaXdK2Mo66HotEsi=fkd4CX5XwJuCFxLk
@bholedg8 ай бұрын
I am sorry but that drill is misinformation, the form is not correct unless you want to continue being an amateur. I too can throw 400ft standstill, i don’t mean to brag, many people can, although the creator has some traction, I don’t think that the drill is helpful as it’s promoting incorrect form.

@@bholedg What misinformation/incorrect form?
@adamlawrence32139 ай бұрын
Interesting take; I have never heard anyone explain it that way but there might be something to this. I feel like there is a definite noticeable difference when my arm mechanics are correct and I get way more snap and spin on the disc for more effortless glide. Will be testing to see if this is the major concept that helps keep that consistent since I sometimes lose my spin/snap when I focus too much on the rest of the body. Appreciate the insight and different way of looking at it.
