Im considering either a JC Martin or a Corriante saddle. They are about the same price so wondering what your opinion is on quality comparison? They look similar but its so hard to tell looking online. I was recently in Texas and was disappointed that I couldn't go look at the JC Martins.

So glad to see you stepping back and taking the time to try and discover what is the problem, what is she trying to tell you. Horses don’t want to show when they are in pain- survival means don’t let the predators know you are weak. So if she is in pain, that needs to be dealt with first. My comment that she wasn’t in a good frame of mind from the start before the rear could very well have been pain that was making her anxious. Great follow up videos.

The horse was not in a good, thinking, calm frame of mind from the beginning lunging to the very end. The first mistake was getting on her when she was still anxious. Always easy to offer advice after the fact, but being able to read a horse’s state of mind is critical to getting a safe ride. She was still anxious when mounted after the rear. Pawing, head tossing, quick, stiff movements. She was continuously overwhelmed and thought her only option was to rear.

You are right, advice after the fact is hard.. What is also hard is getting folks to read my intro to this video and watch the less exciting follow up vids on her to get the real story about what happened rather than just commenting on the viral vid and not bothering with the rest.. No offense to you but sometimes its frustrating to see theses comments year after year.. Sorry.

@@SmokieBrannaman I think you did a fantastic job. As both a trainer and horseman myself I have had a horse do exactly this. She never did it again after I got back on her. Sometimes you never can tell. If our job was easy everyone would do it! People do not realize we aren't just riding 1 or 2 horses a year we jump on 100s or more. You do this job long enough and get on enough stock something is bound to happen. Keep up the good work, hope you are able to heal up quick, those are always nasty on the hips and ribs!

@@SmokieBrannaman I did not find anything in your intro other than attempts to save your hurt ego. A lame horse should not be ridden, period. Maybe something to think about.

@larysaistomina6849 no ego to hurt there. I missed some clues and things went side ways plain and simple. @@SmokieBrannaman I think someone here might want to educate himself on how to recognize pain and lameness in horses before getting on. (Hint: not me). @larysaistomina6849 get off your high horse girly.. this problem was created by not being caught and treated long before me. But you and the other critics of the day jump on one 10 minute vid to make yourself look so big and knowledgeable. I feel sorry for the horses that have the bad luck to run into you. Had I not spoon fed most of you, you would have jumped on the latest guru's comments about how the rest of us do it wrong. Which there are many on this vid. Your comments don't hold anymore weight than the rest until I see your work and how much more you can teach the rest of us. Had I not missed some of the more subtle signs when I started her things would surely have been different. My bad, my fault. But if you really want to learn go read the whole story and allthe comments that also missed those signs and just chose to rake me over on my merhod. Yup I could have... And...Yes she did.. WAY before this happened on this day... If you had bothered to look at any of the comments on this vid, or watched some of the other vids about this mare, or went to my facebook page posts on this horse years ago . You would have found out that yes she had given me some clues that may have cut off this situation.. She in fact had a genetic and physical issue in her hips that she had since birth that was not caught by the vets, owners, or me until this ride. But because she was such a nice colt to start and was riding well on the first three or four rides, I missed some of the tell tail signs of weakness in her hips that she was showing.. So when I rode her up the incline and she stopped to check things out the excess pressure on her already bad hip gave out.. So the way I look at it, you guys can arm chair train and bad mouth me all you want but it may be a different story when you care to come on down to my round pen and show me how you do it lol! It's kiiiinda like raising kids... there IS a place for positive AND negative reinforcement. Abuse is when you can not restrain yourself from hitting them again and again and again even after the horse clearly is trying to submit. The goal of horsemanship isn't to dominate but to have a partnership. I have witnessed firsthand abuse to horses, and it is my goal to be unlike that. My goal as a horse trainer is to be fair yet firm if I need to be.
