Have you ever found a R.I. Hutch before?
@RIBottleguy7 күн бұрын
Hey, I have not! I've dug two hutches in RI and one was from CT and the other Mass. They sure did get me going lol.
@NebraskasEverything7 күн бұрын
@ I thought about it while you were digging and then checked hutchbook and saw only 11 exist. It seems R.I. Has a lot of rare bottles
@RIBottleguy7 күн бұрын
@@NebraskasEverything there are actually only 6 confirmed RI hutches with the rest being rumored or unconfirmed variants (likely poorly described back in the day). I have the good fortune of owning all 6! They did cost me and arm and a leg which makes digging more of a challenge now.
@NebraskasEverything7 күн бұрын
@ why’s digging more of a challenge now?
@RIBottleguy7 күн бұрын
@@NebraskasEverything I was just joking that I literally gave an arm and a leg for the hutches as opposed to figuratively.

Sweetest Stop Thief milk bottle, I've never seen one before. How can you tell the difference between flint glass and other glass made during that time period? How deep are you digging to find the treasure? Also do you probe any areas after you think what the bottom is? Thank you RIbottleguy!!! I love your digs for telling us about the bottles, location and rarity. Fabulous job and number 1 to me...
@RIBottleguy18 күн бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! So flint glass technically has lead in it, which made the glass clear instead of aqua. Lead was used from the early 1800s to the 1870s when other decolorizing agents became more popular. It has a certain ring to it when you tap it with your fingernail, but also if it has manufacturing marks and crudeness associated with pre-1880 bottles that is usually how I identify it. As for depth here I found the original basement floor just shy of 6 feet down.

I recently found 1 of your area's bottle on my last dig of the year. ( Kennebec county Maine ). Lots of embossing. A Jarmuth. Beef, wine & Iron. A bit odd with the iron. Made me laugh when I first read it. Are you. Able to dig Year round? And have any idea the years for blob tops. Congrats on finding the pontil puff. Have 2 myself
@RIBottleguyАй бұрын
Nice find! Those are fun bottles. As for digging the last few winters have been mild enough for year-round digging. The blobs are mostly early 1900s.
