It can’t be a magnetic handle cause it would still be inside the cloth with his right hand holding but you can clearly see that nothing is there

Freeze frame @6:00 you can actually see the outline of the magnetic handle underneath the cloth in his right hand... I guess Pen and Teller are getting old not to have seen it...

It's so simple, how did penn and teller miss it. This is on the order of a child's level trick purchased at a magic shop.

It's like sometimes P&T get caught up on complex tricks and gimmicks that they miss simple things.

Great routine. I THINK I have a handle on how it was done. But I had to watch it a couple times before I grabbed it. Still a very great and fun routine. Well done!!

Very clever. Props to you for sneaking the code in there. Even the use of the red and blue mug colors.. Subtle x 50.

Gotta love Penn pretending to give up the trick with no code when he knew from the very start he was fooled and was just giving out wrong solutions on purpose

Over the years i have found that when Penn says outright what he supposedly thinks the magician did, it is always a lead in to saying they were fooled.

When I saw this, I understood that the mugs were made from metal . that means the trick has to do with magnets. simply the ear of the mug is magnetic .attached on it.

On first watch it's incredibly clear how this was done. I don't care about keeping magician's secrets, so I'm not going to explain it "in code" like others have. A second handle was attached to the mug with a magnet, and when detached stayed under the cloth past the end of the trick. You can see him obscuring the real handle in his palm as he threads the rope though the fake one, how he's careful to put no stress on the fake handle has to hands the end of the rope to the other participant, how gently he hangs the mug (holding it by the rim instead of the handle and steadying the rope with his other hand) so as to be sure not to knock the magnet loose, and how then he detaches the magnet with a levering action to make the mug drop while not even pretending to let go of the handle (too risky, probably). On a second watch, you can also see that the fake handle is positioned higher up on the mug than the actual handle is, but I don't think you'd so easily notice that in-person form across the stage. Maybe some of these are more obvious on-camera than on-stage, but you from any distance you can clearly see the shape of the fake handle under the cloth when he holds it up after the trick is over, which should have immediately clued Penn and Teller in if they hadn't already guessed what was going on, which even I had. Like, I'm not particularly good at spotting how these things are done, of knowledgeable about stage magic techniques, but there were just so many clues so early that I knew what it was going to be before it was triggered, so I'm completely baffled how Penn and Teller missed it (although Penn kind of had it when he said "mug switch"), unless it was literally them just playing dumb and choosing to be "fooled" because they liked the guy. But apart from that, I did really like the rest of the performance where he does the fake reveals. That's the kind magic I'm into, meta/behind-the-scenes stuff. Like, I don't even need the real trick at the end.

2:06 A code word that was either a clue to P&T or a slip was "welded together", which implies a metal mug. Just to add to the top conversations, including Bernini's own replies, P&T would have been allowed to look at the mug (it's real), the rope (it's real), and the cloth (it's real), because the extra magnetic handle would have been palmed between the final reveal and him putting everything back on the table. They probably would *not* have been able to look at his pockets lol.

How did P&T not catch that one? It was daring of you to magnetically attach the cup to the helmet in the routine as that could have given it away by association.
