Sadly, Spencer just recently departed this band. Been a fan for a decade now, and was fortunate to see him live 3 times. I think because the music is immediately so impressively fast, its often overlooked just how creative and unique his rhythmical style is. The kicks (and snare during the gravity blast sections) are super triggered, but its not really the point of the Tech-Death genre. By replacing dynamic kicks with consistent samples, the modern tech death drummer can focus much more on speed and precision. I recommend watching his playthrough video of the song "Lucid Collective Somnambulation"
@WIKKRMUSIC16 күн бұрын
I think Spencer used triggers? Only to increase volume and not to fix timing

Hey man, new to the channel. Really appreciate your take on outside genres like extreme metal. I'd really love to see you check out a band called Sensory Amusia, they have a track called "Pain" performed by an absolute weapon of a drummer. Dude is French if I'm correct? The band itself is Australian but their drummer is from France. His jazz influences in metal are so interesting!
@Bobbias16 күн бұрын
Iced Earth is not viking metal, but power metal. While I enjoy this song, it's really not the most interesting of their songs, though it's a great showcase for Matt Barlow's excellent voice. If you want something interesting, check out Dante's Inferno. Iced Earth's sound is very rhythm guitar driven.

For a suggestion I'd say maybe one of MARIO DUPLANTIER's solos, even though they are short. He does one every year. He is the drummer to the french technical death metal band 'Gojira'. I would like to hear another drummers take on him. The newest one is called 'Armor' I believe. One of their songs would be neat too but the solos really show off his strangeness / talent.
@Celatra16 күн бұрын
Gojira is not and never has been tech death

Big technical death metal fan, When I first heard archspire I listened to 2 songs and was laughing, I thought it was fake and completely programmed. And then Spencer left the band and I started watching auditions and then some of their live stuff and can barely believe its real. Its so insanely talented. Its not something to listen to every day but when it occasionally shows up on my playlists, I definitely sit there in awe.

Type o Negative are very unique. They had this mysterious dark image, yet they were so unserious...80% of their lyrics is satire and dark humor and the members never took themselves seriously neither...they even had written "Don't mistake lack of talent for genius" on the back of their Bloody Kisses album lol. "Christian woman" and "Love you to death" are another ones of their more popular songs. If you want to hear them live i recommend "Wolf Moon" live.

Just discovered your channel! you've got a new sub. From another drummer and a huge TON fan, is good to see you analizing Black NO.1 I recommend you to keep hearing them. Also, if memory doesn't fail me, you will find that the recordings after the album "Bloody kisses" have been recorded using programmed drum machines due to the original drummer leaving the band around the end of 1993. However, Jonhy Kelly, the next one, is also a great and versatile drummer! Greetings from Mexico!
