now i doný now if i´m gonna make this or the color beads because you are totally right
@julial.b.6800Ай бұрын
Honestly, it depends where your child will be attending school afterwards. It's all about reducing the "culture shock" during transitions. For me, I knew my child wasn't going to attend a Montessori school here, so it did not make sense to introduce the colour sequence. The colour sequence shows up in Montessori math materials all the way to grade 6 (arguably into grade 7/8 dependind), so it would make sense if that was the road for your child. Thanks for watching and hope this helps!

Thank you mum ,but at what age is it introduced?
@julial.b.680010 ай бұрын
Typically this is meant for ages 6-7. The children have to have a basic ability to read simple sentences and be developed enough to concentrate through analyzing a sentence, not individual words
@laniloveaj11 ай бұрын
I'm leaning more towards this
@julial.b.680010 ай бұрын
Yeah, even as a fully trained Montessori educator with 6 years classroom experience, I find that sometimes just focusing on the practical life and philosophy can be less overwhelming and in fact allow for more fluidity between other school systems and general life. I hope you are finding good balance!

@pujabhowmik7103 that's enough. It is simpler in English than in other languages like Spanish or French. It's acceptable to say either "Yesterday, I told me kids to play". If you add the past participle, there is a consequence action. "Yesterday I had told my kids to play because they had said they were bored."

Im curious if you would feel this same way if you were homeschooling and did buy all of the materials needed to teach mathematics using the Montessori theory? I am currently homeschooling my preschool age child using Montessori math. I have no plans on sending her to a local school but because i do still have some of the same concerns as you do, i am also using the Singapore math Kindergarten curriculum. I wanted to start using both while she is young to see if it will work long term, or if im going to need to drop one. I hoping to stick with the Montessori math, but i am truly unsure of what is exactly best for us at this time. Any insight would be appreciated!
@julial.b.68002 жыл бұрын
I actually wouldn't, and I definitely didn't clarify that in my video! If you're homseschooling, even if your are not using only Montessori curriculum to guide your child, I would use the beads. They are meant to be a visual and physical guide and are meant to be phased out (ideally in the math curriculum basically by grade 5, when the child should be able to do all operations abstractly and is moving onto decimals, fractions and squaring/cubing). The beads are also a cheaper or easily DIYable material which makes them far more appealing than most other materials, some of which can cost in the hundreds of dollars. If you're wanting to stick with Montessori and you have the "control" of homeschooling, then you'll be able to gauge so much better when your child has mastered each concept in order to move on. The beads, the stamp game and the multiplication board are my top 3 math material suggestions. Hope this helps!
@julial.b.68002 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I should clarify, if I was homeschooling, I would be buying or making many of the materials, but also adopting a slight hybrid method in order to help my child one day intergrate into a public/any school setting.

Julia, given the fact that you have actual Montessori teaching experience, and a broad age range, to boot, you are a goldmine resource for people wanting to learn how to go about implementing Montessori. Am curious as to know when he enters lower elementary, what you plan to do for math skills development. Will you make your own pink tower, brown stairs and knobless cylinders, red and blue rods, etc., and golden bead assembly? If not, how will you substitute those materials and still ensure that he develops mathematical skills the Montessori way?
@julial.b.68002 жыл бұрын
Oh thanks so much! Those are such good questions! Honestly, I've been pondering them a lot lately, and I think I'll be addressing all that in a video in the next month or so. In a nutshell, we have my guy on a couple of waitlists for Montessori preschool, so if he gets in I will not be having those materials at home, but if not, then I will be picking and choosing what I have and how to acquire it.

Thanks! I'd say start with lots of observation to see what types of activities they are drawn to (usually posting, pounding and object permanence become popular with kids at this age), then provide one or two options at a time. Think practical life activities (self care, participation in chores by proxy), nature walks, reading, etc. Hope this helps!

I have been reminding myself of this lately for sure! Materials don't trump philosophy. My area doesn't have a Montessori school and we homeschool so it has been a struggle to implement some of the ideas and theories and lessons without all the expensive materials. I often also wonder what Dr. Montessori would think about how expensive this has become understanding that this was created for children in poverty stricken areas.
@julial.b.68003 жыл бұрын
Also such a good point! Things get convoluted sometimes in this "keep up with trends" world. Good for you for homeschooling! I take my hat off to your hard work.
@Psalm_27.42 жыл бұрын
@Honestly Kay Excellent, excellent point! I have wondered that the main reason why these materials are so expensive is that few people have DEVELOPED the skills to make these items!! If you or your husband were skilled in basic woodworking, you could make these for a fraction of the price!! Of course you would have to invest in tables, saws, and sanders, but the pieces themselves would be relatively inexpensive. 😄

@Honestly Kay Excellent, excellent point! I have wondered if the main reason why these materials are so expensive is that few people have DEVELOPED the skills to make these items!! If you or your husband were skilled in basic woodworking, you could probably make these for a FRACTION of the Nienhuis manufacturing price!! Now granted, Nienhuis products are gorgeous, but I think that a woodworker could produce something equally gorgeous!! And I bet there are woodworkers out there who have made their own gorgeous Montessori materials! I’m looking for them, and am very curious to learn what they spent!!! Of course, to make the items, you would have to invest in tables, saws, and sanders, but the pieces themselves would be relatively inexpensive. 😄
