Here in México there are still lots of tkd tournaments that look like this, and well even do i train with other people that do modern tkd they hit very very hard as well as me, i remember going to tournaments not caring if i won o not, i was there just to kick some one as hard, as fast and as gracefully my body could, one time with one single punch i threw a guy kind of far, i dont realy remember what the mesurements are of the fighting area but i remember throwing him out of the are with a single punch

I think points matches and insurance policies for dojos have caused a huge decline in TKD. Original TKD was different from even this here.

THIS is the way it used to be at the tournaments, although old-school TKD also used hand, elbow, and knee strikes (not allowed in tournaments even in 1980), plus blocking which I didn't really see even here. Tournaments have really degraded TKD since then. Heck, my instructor was champion of a pan-asia TKD tournament in the 60's, and I don't think anything was held back. But talk about dangerous, which is why it was tamed down.
