Hello sir, thank you soooo much. I am 55 y.The cartilage in both my knees is gone and I have painful arthritis. Here in Belgium, the price of these elevators is ten thousand euros and it takes three minutes to reach the 13th step. I showed this video to my husband, who is an engineer. He promised to make me one like this. I hope you are always happy and healthy, kind and loving💕💕💕

I've built a hillside lift that has a hand control mounted at the top. Has a remote to run the DC wench, but you have answered how to make it both top and bottom controlled by riding it down! I have looked for this answer over and over again and just found it at 1am tonight on your video. Thank you sir for this video. You have answered all I need. Especially the fact I can go AC now. Excellent video!!!!

Nice, you just need a call button to retrieve the chair if it's on the other end. However, I suspect that you could probably purchase the actual rails and chair directly from the factory in China, it's just calculating how many segments and what turns you want without ordering too many extras.

The Cetus X is the best micro drone I've had . It wouldn't bind to my RadioMaster controller and I'm past trying to do it on a computer so bought a BetaFpv Lite 3 controller which binded easy . Both excellent so I'm sure getting my money's worth 😅

This is awesome my friend it's so good to see people still have that diy mentality seems like that is a trait that is disappearing through the generations. Been thinking about something similar for our aging dog this gives me some good ideas. Very good job. I appreciate the video.

What happens if the cable snaps....does the entire chair then fly down the stairway or are there some emergency stop override ?

Why don't they sell DYI chair lift kits? there are plenty of folks with advanced carpentry and mechanical skills that don't need a professional installer. These folks are frequently doing without chair lifts because of the price of having it installed. What number of tragedies is that causing? This looks like a safe design except for the top of the stairwell, because the seat doesn't advance into the landing. I'd be afraid an elderly or disabled person would slip and fall as they made their first step down to have a seat on it

This is dangerous. You have no safety features. If the anchor point at the top of the stairs fails, the seat with the weight of the winch and passenger with cause it to roll down the rails at a high speed, causing serious injury. Also, as one commenter said, if you should put too much weight on the foot rest the whole contraption will tilt off the rails.

You could use a tension safety brakes such as what made Otis Elevators famous. However, I agree with you that most of these winch based DIY solutions omit such basic safety considerations which really wouldn't be too hard to implement... Another thing these DIY solutions do are to use horizontal rails rather than cantilever off a vertical rail for a smaller footprint and less of a trip hazard. The other detail often missed are call buttons. Fortunately, this ine at least have switched to stop the winch once the chair reachs it's destination though I would've used a photoelectric eye as well as a rubber stop and overcurrent cutoff in case the sensors fail. What these imperfect DIY solutions tell me id that stair assist installers overprice their installations. I remember that during the early days of Ali-express, you could order the rails and chair direct from the manufacturer in China for a veey low price. Listings for these are terribly difficult to find now. I suspect that we won't see improvements in cost till 3d printers can work with stronger materials (commercial 3d printers and CNC machines already do but aren't really affordable for the home DIY'er yet).

I like that it's a little bit quicker than the average bespoke stairlift, as I've always worried how people would get downstairs (or upstairs depending on your house layout) fast enough in case of say a house fire. As someone else pointed out, I'd look into getting some kind of battery backup in case there's ever a power cut in the house. Maybe a bit of extra lighting attached to the box too to help visibility at night in case the lights ever fail (like in a power cut or house fire). The only thing I'd be a tad worried about is the strength of those wooden guides, and if they might crack or break over time, so I'd personally probably replace them with metal as soon as possible. Other than that, awesome job! This is probably how stairlifts first came into being, before someone figured out how to make them a little more compact. Still, gets the job done and that's all that matters! :)

Interesting idea but this clearly goes beyond the usual DIY in terms of planning, sourcing the required parts, fiddling with the technical aspects, safety & fine tuning to get it to work. Unless there's some pre-made kits out there sold based on stair length, stair inclination angle...such that the only task to do to get it installed is the drilling of holes on the staircase wall to mount this elevator structure to it.

Needs incremental stop points/deadman switches, to prevent that chair from rolling down in a catastrophe like a snapped cable. A broken neck and you will no longer need a lift, bc your new room will be on the ground floor with a home care nurse 16 hrs every day like Christopher Reeve
