I don't know about the Hankooks but I have used 1 set of Michelin CC+ for the last 5 winters. 205 / 55 R16 V. In my experience they are very good on snow with about 80% or more traction of a full snow tyre (we ski every weekend in winter so we have lots of CC+ snow experience). They are very good on freezing cold dry tarmac, much better than a pure summer or winter tyre on cold dry tarmac. After 5 seasons and 40,000km they still have over 4mm and give very good fuel consumption, within 2mpg of my summer tyre. Now I am tempted to order the new version CC 2 for next winter. I read they improved the snow performance, noise, comfort and fuel consumption a lot compared with CC+. FYI, I have a well balanced 50 / 50 weight distribution BMW xDrive touring with over 200 hp. The CC+ is also able to cruise at over 130mph / 200 kph for many hours in comfort.

I find it hard to believe a winter tire would struggle that much. The winter compound on your Hankooks must be worn out.

Hankook Winter i*cept Evo is a factory winter tire for a lot of cars. I saw a lot of them all around. My fater uses this tire for like 6 years without a single slip... in the 215/60 R16 size.

Try driving slower In slippy conditions. The levels of friction are higher at lower speeds. Spinning the wheels means traction is low and you won’t get anywhere

The grey car has crossclimate tire
@ColinMill16 жыл бұрын
While many tests suggest the cross climate is an effective tyre in such conditions sadly, in this test, using two different types of vehicle leaves a lot of questions about how much the different weight distributions, traction control systems etc influence the results.
@piotrwinkler23736 жыл бұрын
Colin Mill you're right. I didn't want to prove that this tyre would be better than winter one, but that in such specific conditions it may be better than random car with winter tyres. This movie is just only an example of what I wrote above :)

Sure - what is interesting is how poor the Kia + Hankook combination was in conditions that, superficially, don't look very demanding. For me it underpins the idea that, in winter, a set of snow chains in the back is good insurance whatever vehicle and tyres you have.

I came to leave the same comment, bit Colin already did, so yeah I was going to say put them.in the same car if possible and let's try again. Also might be good to know the age/wear of its tyre. Thank you

True but Kia has the weight advantage and still couldn't made it.

But winter tire is supposed to give you traction in the winter regardless of what car that is.

@George L Total (4x4) traction is a total failure if the tyres don't grip. You will be safer with a humble front wheel drive if the tyres are good for the snow and those Cross Climate are what I use. I have never had a problem with them. Of course you must drive slower than with a dry road but I never had a slip on snow and ice.

Of course summer rubber compound is better. Silicone is soft but more slippery. Tires warm up to somewhere above freezing very quickly.
