This is an excellent video. Thank you for showing us how easy it is to set this sawmill up. I'm currently shopping for a portable sawmill for use in some remote islands in Fiji, where the Peterson sawmill legacy began all those years ago (I just read the backstory on your website). This looks like an excellent choice for that application, though I may go for an 8" or 10" blade. I would love to know how best to setup the sawmill on sloping ground. Obviously you would fell the tree along the contour line, and I guess you would then dig down into the ground to place the upslope ends of the support structure. Is that correct? I'm planning to visit a family in Australia next week who are running a Warrior, so I have a genuine interest in your sawmills. Any info would be much appreciated.

There is lots of hands available in the Islands so this mill would be well suited to setting up over the log, yes you would need dig in on a slope, it should be pretty level during operation.

Also, what is not noted in this video, the endcaps of the posts are not welded so you can extend the skids and posts just by purchasing extra length material and some chain, for the big logs.

I have rented a M8 28M once and struggled with the smaller logs for exactly the reasons you mentioned. I intend to rent it again. I'll give these techniques a try. Perhaps even having the elevated bunks ready to place once the mill is in place.

Milling in this fashion still requires the same number of trips up and down the beam for the saw head. Just at a 50% duty cycle. Other than few saw head rotations, is it really that much faster than normal back and forth sawing?

@bwillan your not pushing the saw, but instead, actuate a lever, so it's the human fatigue and the monotonous swings you save.

Just out of pure curiosity: Does anyone use a saw like this even occasionally on smaller timber like 20"-40", or is it allways "massive big super pine" that is sawn? Just thinking about the possibility to put it straight on the floor, then the logs can't be that big. But then again the logs are lighter and I would assume that there should be some way to secure them in place?

Someone is going to have quite the job squaring up the ends of those 12x12 beams. I am surprised more loggers don't use the undercut method when creating the opening wedge when felling large trees. This gives more usable timber to the butt log on the tree.
