This does not appear to be a fast part of the railroad. I don't think they are even close to hitting 79. Anyone know the general psgr speed limit between South Bend and Elkhart?
@wpuckАй бұрын
Maybe 79 on the two-track part methinks. I should have watched it longer before making my comment. the multi-track parts could all be within yard limit speeds.

It doesn't matter which direction you're heading on the EB, but it does matter on which side of the train you are sitting. As far as Puget sound, I know the old way you would be right on the edge of the water around Tacoma, but I think they use a different route now (where the derailment was) that's inland. Not sure.

@MDLsRailViews oh ok.... I was just wondering because I see the train leaves Spokane at 3:19am (if it's on time) and supposedly gets to Seattle at 11:20 that same morning. So far the plans are to go westbound from Spokane to Seattle but between now and July that can always change. I hope they're still passing along the Puget Sound route, that just adds to the breathtaking scenery. But either way, I'm sure it's gonna be nice. And just in case I'm sitting on the "wrong side" there's always the observation car to see out of. I'm actually hoping to be able to see out the rear window of the train cuz I plan to setup my gopro and video 📹

Yes.

@MDLsRailViews oh wow... I love that view. As crazy as this may sound, but I live in Houston, TX and I'm actually planning to fly way to Spokane and ride to Seattle just to catch these views. Plans are to do that sometimes next summer. We southerners aren't used to that type of cold in the winter....lol.... I also saw on KZbin is how nice the scenery is when passing the Puget Sound. Does it matter which direction is better? I would think Spokane to Seattle because going the other way the train isn't scheduled to leave until close 5pm and it'll be mostly dark.

A beautiful view of Ft Morgan and Colorado's high plains on a spectacular day. An added bonus of passing a coal drag waiting to follow the Zephyr west. I don't mind a dirty window. After all the miles from Chicago that she has traveled, a bit of dust, and such, is to be expected. Nice video.

On an overcast morning, a view of classic railroading across northern Indiana. Now that I think of it, how can you expect the window in the door at the end of the last car in a train to be clean. Car washers only clean the sides of the cars, not the ends. The only thing that the end gets is overspray as the car leaves the machine. Guaranteed to make a mess on the window! As I watched this video of the heavily trafficked NS line, I found myself wondering why the railroads make such an issue over Amtrak interfering in their freight traffic. NS seems to be doing a reasonable job of moving #29 through numerous trains, going both ways, through here. It's probably due to a dispatcher who actually knows what he is doing. A rarity on some railroads. This is a great video showing some of the details that keep the railroads moving.

Red sky at night, a travelers delight. So the old saying goes. And you have a beautiful one, crossing northern Indiana. I've seen it several times, in the past, from the Sightseer Lounge, as I traveled to DC on #30. This is a great view of the sunset and Indiana from a speeding Capital Limited. Thanks for catching the scenes.

In spite of the dirty window, this is a good view of western Wisconsin countryside. At the end of the speeding train, a rainy day would have made it worse, so you should be thankful it was a beautiful afternoon. I enjoyed the ride, anyhow.

I'll date myself, but I've ridden this line several times, years ago, when the Hiawatha trains were operated by the "Turboliners!" It's sort of nostalgic to see it this way. Thanks for the view.

Lots of full interlockings on this line. One notable exception is the one just east of Naperville. Its sole purpose is getting express trains to and from Chicago on the center track. There’s only two Naperville expresses each way now but there were a lot more pre-pandemic.

At 4:35 there is a set of tracks going left. I used to get in the yard when I was a kid(some 60 years ago) by walking down it. That track goes quite a distance. You can even find it bordering Crapo Park several miles down the way.

The long trestle over the north end of the Bonnet Carre spillway/southwest corner of Lake Pontchartrain has been replaced. It was damaged in 2011 by debris impact during an opening of the spillway. In 2016, there was a fire on the trestle over Lake Pontchartrain which destroyed about 800 feet of that old creosote timber bridge. A new timber bridge was installed and the line reopened a week later. I guess CN had enough of that old bridge, because in 2019 they began building a new concrete trestle alongside the existing bridge, on the north side between the existing bridge and I-10. Once the new span was opened, the creosote timber bridge was removed, including the plate girder spans and their concrete footings.

Toldeo station is great. If amtrak can bring back the 3Cs corridor, that would be a game changer, making Toldelo as well as turning Ohio into a hub like Chicago. This station needs a rebuild and a well executed plan

At 10:00, track curving to left was a connector track for AT&SF passenger trains running between Ft. Worth and Brownwood, Texas (those trains lasted until about 1967 or so). Further timeline: 13:20 Interstate 20 passes overhead; 13:28 elaborate stone work on bridge abutments typical of Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe construction work. 15:10 crossing Sycamore School Road; 15:25 Sycamore Airstrip parallels track; 17:57 more GC&SF stonework at Deer Creek; 18:02 North Switch Crowley Siding.
