Okay, you can't load your own sounds into it through sampling, but it does have a floppy disk with custom sounds on it. The sounds are created with the synthesizer. And this also has the ZPI sound source

Well, that's what happens when you circuit bend stuff. It's not supposed to sound normal though. So, what texas instruments speech synthesis chip does this have? And some vtechs, like the vtech letter fun PC and picture desk, have 2 different chips. One is the CPU plus speech synthesis chip, and the other chip is probably a ROM chip or something to store the speech or the games

Love your keyboard videos. Just found your channel. Bit of a quick thought. It’s usually best to circuit bend with batteries, to keep yourself from getting shocked. I try not to leave batteries in my gear, batteries are annoying when they leak. One thing I learned recently Is that its ideal to reboot The keyboard if it crashes during A bend. To keep it from frying anything. But yeah. Your bend videos are rad!! Many thanks for filming and sharing

I have this keyboard but sadly in part only. I was someday planning on rebuilding it in wood as I will most of my collection of keyboards but I forgot how nice this model sounded.. Thanks for reminding me lol!
@pianokeyjoe4 жыл бұрын
ya know? I only read and see on the INTERNET that this board is bendable.. I have owned this keyboard numerous times and still own one now and I have to say, I have never been able to bend it stably, with any real success so I assume it is bendable only because the benders have access to schematics which I at 13 years old back in the 1980s, did not have access to. The keyboard was expensive back then so having more than one at a time was only a dream. I also seen and even bought a UMR midi interface for this board but sadly, I sold that interface. Now, I can tell you that this keyboard has only one preset I love that comes directly from the Casio CZ line of cosmo synths. It is BRASS ENS! The best sound! The piano is a 8bit sampled piano sound but with a soft attack envelope so it does not have a STRUCK piano sound which annoyed me. I was impressed by the synth drums when I played this at the store and the portamento with the brass ens was all the rage for me back then lol! I heard you mention VWESTLIFE! Nice! The 2 beats I love best for my music on this is MARCH(sped up for a nice simple TECHNO beat), and Samba which I imitate. Will not sell my keyboards anymore on Ebay. At 45 and divorced, I have alot of regrets, and one of them is selling all my toys over the years(keyboards)thinking "better life with new wife" HA! I will keep my Casios and Yamahas thankyou very much :-P
@BuickGeek244 жыл бұрын
What keyboard did they sample the piano from though?
@pianokeyjoe4 жыл бұрын
@@BuickGeek24 Well sir, I do not think it was a keyboard, put a real piano or if it was a electric, it would have been maybe from an electric grand piano. The Brass Ens sound IS preset 3 on my CZ3000/5000 SYNTH BRASS, and I have replicated the sound on my CZ101/1000 and CZ1. It is also the same preset on CT6500 that I have and on the CZ230S. But the piano sound, is the only PCM sample the SK1 ever really had, other than your own sample via the sampling button. All other presets are synthetic samples. Not all came from some other keyboard or a real piano, but some, like the voice and synth drum, are sampled from bits of sample code stringed together to form those presets. The synth drum sounds like a SIMMONS snare drum, with delay added. The voice is a mystery to me but it too had delay added when sampled. The trumpet is purely synthetic as are the organ sounds.

bending these AWM boards is hard. Hit or miss. From what my experience is, is that the best keyboards to bend for MUSICALLY usable bends, are OLD FM sound keyboards, analog and those casio keyboards from the 1980s with PULSE(square wave)synthesis engines. Sadly sampled keyboards from the 1990s on are not as easy. But hey, I paid $5 for mine so I may give it a whirl and attempt a bend or 10 lol!
@pianokeyjoe4 жыл бұрын
ha! I have this keyboard! I bought it this summer in Florida fleamarket for $5!! Funny, it was one of 3 keyboards that actually works! For $5 each not bad!

I have the PSR-240, and it's bent. Well, the wave ROM is, not the program ROM
@pianokeyjoe4 жыл бұрын
hmm? Nobody commented?? Well sir, it is the batteries. This is what we call an easter egg. You have wave scanning. I have done this with connecting disconnecting power and playing with the power switch. The Casio SK1 is the only model that I notice has power on glitches even with good power though. You will see the power light stay on with the power switch OFF when you first plug it in.
@BuickGeek244 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by "wave scanning"?
@pianokeyjoe4 жыл бұрын
@@BuickGeek24 the keyboard's synth chip wave forms are playing one after another on each key you were pressing and the scan repeats or starts over when you hit a new key or if you keep one key pressed. It is a feature on some nice Korg and Yamaha Synths from the mid 80s to early 90s but on cheap Casio keyboards that you circuit bend, it is a consequence of shorting some chip pins, low battery, or other glitching. So wave scanning is when the keyboard plays all the wave table waveforms that are found in the sound gen chip one after another while pressing a key or set of keys.
@pianokeyjoe4 жыл бұрын
man, what ever you do..DO NOT LET THAT WIRE TOUCH GROUND while bending!! Thats how I killed 2 keyboards already!!
@pianokeyjoe4 жыл бұрын
well hot damn! I have alot of these Yamahas and I did not know I could actually bend the sounds on them! Most of the AWM and PCM sound gens are preprogrammed on a single chip and makes it hard to bend without crashing the keyboard since there is not much analog circuitry, but seems you proved me wrong! YEY!
@BuickGeek244 жыл бұрын
The Yamaha's with the SWL01 are SoC's though
@BuickGeek244 жыл бұрын
Well yeah, the PSR_E223 has the SWL01, and that is bendable, but only on the I/O ports (except the ones for MIDI and the keybed). Everything else it just ROM data/address bus, which just leads to a crash. So, they are bendable, but the older ones seem more likely to be less moody
