It’s the contribution amount and years worked plus 0 years. These people people that did 20/20 paid vs didn’t paid didn’t get a proper % of return from SS vs others. I did 32 years SS and 10.5 years non covered (state safety service). I only have 3 zero years. They say my contributions vs payment is fair. Those who did 30+ years public work &!didn’t pay SS get it. The people that did close to 50/50 of one vs the other got boned. The less than 50/50 years worked are valued less and less severally. @@MichelValbrun However, these people DID pay into SS!. The WEP just decided to reduce this SS significantly because in an earlier or later job, the company did not pay into SS and instead paid into a pension. I am beginning to believe after alllll the times people have explained this situation..... these complainers KNOW what this is about - they are just mad their SS is so low. But SS was not designed to be your only income in retirement. You were supposed to build up your own retirement investments by contributing to a IRA or 401k,

My hubby worked for Corrections in CA as an Electrician. His first SS benefit will be late February. He was affected by the WEP. He would be receiving only half of his benefits. But now he goes onto his account and they have removed his benefit amount. So hopefully they will be working on recalculating his new amount.

I retired from the California Department of Corrections as a lieutenant in 2007. I went on to work another 8 years after that. I had my 40+ quarters before I started working for the department plus 8 more years after that. When I applied for my Social Security they denied my about 50% of my benefits due to my state pension. It will be interesting to see how big this retroactive check will be.

@@MrTunaChaserI believe California is a reverse offset state. If you’re currently being offset by SSA, it is likely they will owe you everything they stole in 2024, assuming you were being offset by SSA. Any money offset by the state is likely lost forever… That’s my lay person opinion… Good luck 🤞
