Tec Tip to keep that core dry. Drill those holes out about a 1/2 inch, fill with epoxy and redrill the smaller size you want them. This way if and when the sealant fails no water gets to core.

@sailingabroad6528 Years ago at work a welder let his welding machine run dry . A simple loosening of the fuel line and some mild cold cranking solved that issue. Saves the starter for sure
