Dedicated to my father who played Ray's album every Sunday in the early 1960s. Thanks daddy for giving me an appreciation for good music.

My drunk mother always sang this song. I hate country music because of her.

This is the only song that I ever heard my dad sing. I was about 11 years old and went with him to take pictures of a person's house for insurance purposes. As we pulled out of their driveway, the song came on and he sang it all the way through. I still remember the exact house we had gone to on West Montgomery. Ray Price had one of the most beautiful voices ever and this, his signature song, is one of the most beautifully tragic songs ever recorded. He died on this date in 2016.
