Hi Shannon, Based on your requirement, you can have your data in multiple sheets. And when needed you can combine all the data into a single data set in looker only.

I have to connect 7 tables. How should i identify, which table to consider first in left join ? Also in a data model, if table B has 2 connections table A and table C with same xommon key whixh should i join first ? Thanks 🙏
@thedatamillennials
@thedatamillennials Ай бұрын
When performing multiple JOIN operations across several tables, the order of joins can significantly affect the outcome. you can identify which table to consider first in a LEFT JOIN and how to handle a situation where a table has multiple connections by keeping the below mentioned points in mind:- 1) Start with the table that contains the most important or primary data for your query. This is often the table with the majority of the data you want to retrieve. 2) consider starting with the table that has the most rows. This allows you to ensure you’re capturing as much data as possible in subsequent joins. On you another question regarding data model :- If Table B connects to both Table A and Table C using the same common key, the choice of which table to join first depends on several factors like 1) Foreign Key Dependency ( Join the parent table first: If Table B has a foreign key relationship with both Table A and Table C, but Table A is conceptually a parent of Table B, you would typically join Table A first.) 2) Cardinality - If Table B has one-to-one or many-to-one relationships with Table A and Table C, prioritize the table with fewer duplicates or fewer rows to reduce the possibility of incorrect data duplication. For instance, join the table with fewer rows or the one representing a higher level in the hierarchy. One last thing that i can suggest you is to consider the business logic or reporting requirements. If your query needs data from Table A more than Table C, prioritize joining Table A first.

Hey, great video!Quick question, can we make the bubble size fixed (up to 8km radius), in bubble map?
@thedatamillennials
@thedatamillennials Ай бұрын
you cannot directly set a fixed bubble size like "8 km radius" in Looker Studio maps. However, you can simulate a fixed bubble size or a more uniform visual by manipulating the underlying metric values or using a workaround: Workaround- Create a New Metric: If you want all the bubbles to be the same size (e.g., representing 8 km or a fixed unit), you can create a new metric that assigns a constant value to all rows. This metric would force all the bubbles to be of equal size. Create a calculated field and assign a constant value to all entries. For example: Fixed_Bubble_Size = 100 Then use Fixed_Bubble_Size as the metric for the bubble size.

Hi Sir can you please solve below query Table 1 Emp_id City_name 2 Chennai 3 Pune Table 2 Dept_id Emp_id A 1 A 2 B 3 B 4 Table 3 Emp_id Sal 1 5000 2 3000 3 4000 4 2000 for the above tables find out 2 highest salary for each department and their respective city
@thedatamillennials
@thedatamillennials 4 ай бұрын
To find the two highest salaries for each department along with their respective cities, we'll need to join the tables and then rank the employees within each department based on their salaries. Here's the SQL query to achieve this: WITH RankedSalaries AS ( SELECT t2.Dept_id, t3.Emp_id, t3.Sal, t1.City_name, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY t2.Dept_id ORDER BY t3.Sal DESC) AS SalaryRank FROM Table2 t2 JOIN Table3 t3 ON t2.Emp_id = t3.Emp_id LEFT JOIN Table1 t1 ON t2.Emp_id = t1.Emp_id ) SELECT Dept_id, Emp_id, Sal, City_name FROM RankedSalaries WHERE SalaryRank <= 2 ORDER BY Dept_id, SalaryRank; /*Explanation of the Query Line by Line:*/ WITH RankedSalaries AS- This part of the query creates a Common Table Expression (CTE) named `RankedSalaries`. The CTE allows us to create a temporary result set that we can use in the subsequent query. SELECT t2.Dept_id, t3.Emp_id, t3.Sal, t1.City_name: - We are selecting the department ID (`Dept_id`), employee ID (`Emp_id`), salary (`Sal`), and city name (`City_name`) from the tables. ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY t2.Dept_id ORDER BY t3.Sal DESC) AS SalaryRank: - This line generates a ranking for each employee within their department based on their salary, in descending order. `PARTITION BY t2.Dept_id` resets the ranking for each department, and `ORDER BY t3.Sal DESC` orders the salaries from highest to lowest. The result is stored as `SalaryRank`. FROM Table2 t2 - We start by selecting data from `Table2`, which contains the department and employee relationships. JOIN Table3 t3 ON t2.Emp_id = t3.Emp_id: - We join `Table2` with `Table3` on the `Emp_id` to get the salary information for each employee. LEFT JOIN Table1 t1 ON t2.Emp_id = t1.Emp_id: - We use a `LEFT JOIN` to bring in the city information from `Table1`. This join ensures that even if an employee doesn't have a city listed, the result set will still include them. SELECT Dept_id, Emp_id, Sal, City_name: - In the final query, we select the department ID, employee ID, salary, and city name from the `RankedSalaries` CTE. WHERE SalaryRank <= 2: - We filter the results to include only those rows where the `SalaryRank` is 1 or 2, meaning we are only interested in the top two highest salaries for each department. ORDER BY Dept_id, SalaryRank: - The results are ordered by department ID and then by the salary rank within each department. The query will return the top two highest-paid employees for each department, along with their city names.

Yes you can! but i am confused that how would you compare two datasets when you will hide the dimension.
@TalmadgeMcGhoulaghy
@TalmadgeMcGhoulaghy 2 ай бұрын
once you hide the dimension in the data definition it’s no longer available to the table. You get an error. I needed the dimension for conditional formatting but didn’t want to display it. So what I ended up doing, is renaming the dimension with leading spaces, sliding the column to the right and add a conditional formatting rule to that dimension so the text and background matches that of the table. Hidden. Now you need to create a conditional formatting rule for each dimension you want to change based on the value of the dimension you don’t want shown. Google Studio is Appsheet and if you’ve used Appsheet it’s a nightmare. Google would have been better off developing in house rather than trying to incorporate someone else’s software in with theirs.

Hi, I would like to transpose the metrics from columns to rows in the pivot table on looker. I dont see any options for doing this on the sidebar or anything similar. could you please help me out?
@thedatamillennials
@thedatamillennials 4 ай бұрын
In Looker, pivot tables do not have a direct feature like Google Sheets where you can simply choose "Values as: Rows" or "Values as: Columns." However, you can achieve a similar effect by adjusting the way you organize your fields and dimensions in the pivot table. you can transpose metrics from columns to rows by Useing Table Calculations: If you want to display the metrics as rows instead of columns, you can use a combination of dimensions and table calculations to structure your data accordingly. Create a dimension that categorizes your metrics (like "Metric Type"). Then, create separate table calculations for each metric that filters based on this dimension.

how to save union data into a new table?
@thedatamillennials
@thedatamillennials 6 ай бұрын
To save the results of a UNION query into a new table in SQL, you can use a combination of the `CREATE TABLE` and `INSERT INTO` statements. Here’s a step-by-step guide for this process: 1. Create the New Table: First, you need to create the structure of the new table that will store the results of the UNION. The structure should match the structure of the result set of your UNION query. 2. Insert Data Using UNION: Use the `INSERT INTO` statement combined with your UNION query to populate the new table. Here is an example to illustrate the process: Suppose you have two tables, `table1` and `table2`, and you want to save the union of these tables into a new table called `new_table`. Step 1: Create the New Table ### Step 2: Insert Data Using UNION Next, use the `INSERT INTO` statement with your UNION query to insert data into the new table: sql INSERT INTO new_table (column1, column2, column3, ...) SELECT column1, column2, column3, ... FROM table1 UNION SELECT column1, column2, column3, ... FROM table2; ### Example Let’s say you have two tables with the following structure: table1: - id (INT) - name (VARCHAR) - age (INT) table2: id (INT) name (VARCHAR) age (INT) You want to union these tables and save the results into a new table called `new_table`. sql Step 1: Create the new table CREATE TABLE new_table ( id INT, name VARCHAR(255), age INT ); Step 2: Insert data using UNION INSERT INTO new_table (id, name, age) SELECT id, name, age FROM table1 UNION SELECT id, name, age FROM table2; By following these steps, you will create a new table and save the results of the UNION query into it.
