Cool. Man cool man. Adam jones is better. You tools guitar hehe. Lol idk why I pulled Adam jones into this he ain’t done nothing wrong. However I’ll say. I like this guy. He wished he was joe pass bout like Stevie ray Vaughn wished he had been Hendrix. No one ever heard hendrix blues album. Yep 30 years before ray Vaughn the greatest electric player Hendrix close tie with page. But ray Vaughn was a hack. Hendrix play what Vaughn did for goofs and filler songs. Copy ever bend vibrato and fast pentatonic lick Hendrix had developed and say he’s great. Yeah greata van fleet is great ripping Led Zeppelin off like it’s cool. Black Sabbath is cool and the most original band that there has ever been. Beatles are one but Black Sabbath come out of now where with heavy heavy music and iommi is actually more a jazz player than rock.. not as electric as page or Hendrix but werider but still freaking cool. Glad I could share my two cents means squat. But ray Vaughn is a rip off like this guy is to joe pass. Pass would play all that so much smother and like pass. But the two chord thing at the top was awesome. This guy is awesome joe pass didn’t even know this Kenny guy. Jerry reed was great also

If Erik Satie would have lived a few decades after his own time and played the guitar, this would have been how hw sounded... deep impressionistic undertones in Barney's aproach with chord- melody

I am a guitarist myself who loves all styles, but the Jazz greats Like KB inspire the most awe in me for their mastery of the instrument. Also, I dated his niece in junior high school. She was just as beautiful and classy.

Barney is not a flashy guitarist like we have today but he's got feeling, tone, taste, swing of course, and soul.
@epf19612 жыл бұрын
My first question (after I recover emotionally from the beauty and the fog clears) is, how much of this was worked out in advance, and how much was improvised? I'm not underestimating Kessel's obvious genius, but I suppose it would be more fathomable to us "mere mortal" jazz guitarists if we knew at least a considerable portion of this was "practiced".. For to just "produce" this off the top of one's head is even more mind-boggling.
@joshferguson97032 жыл бұрын
I would guess not much was worked out previously Barney was know to improvise on the spot and his extensive knowledge of chords was above most players even today his chordal solos are a master class

Joe was one of the truly great players. I was lucky enough to see him at a gig in New Bedford, MA nearly forty years ago and that experience still resonates with me today .

The whole band are great. But Barney Kessel is fantastic. (even at ¾ speed he is fast!) A Basie Blues, but this was a signature piece for Barney.

I dont understand the people on here saying they dont like his tone. Im guessing they are talking about the attack and the way each note blooms. I find it perfect and something to strive for as a player.

When Wes was buried, did all the guitars of the guitars of the world entered in the casket? because only this guy deserved to have indeed all the guitars of the world with him; only him knew how to play Jazz Guitar right with?...iI's a "black joke", it's bad.. i reconize, you can't joke with death, but... it was to underlined the Wes talent, so i'm redeemed...
