I encountered it twice and got into a struggle almost instantly both times. I died the 1st time from severe lacerations because I didn't know that you bleed out every 12 hours.

Be sure to be fully prepared with high armor clothes. This is the toughest fight in the game, so treat it as a final boss

This hunting mechanic is pure nonsense, it reminds me of the first time they implemented the fight with the Gray Bear (or whatever his name is) in Wintermute: 1 light a fire 2 strip naked 3 lure the bear After all that you'll lose about 10 bandages And here's another nonsens: after fight ( because this is not a hunting) 4.5 kg of meat - as much as a regular house cat XD!

Vaughn’s Rifle does seem like the perfect choice for cougar hunting-easier to walk around with, and that quicker firing rate can save your life.

Same. Met it in AC, just up from Anglers, near stone shelf cave. Terrible lines of sight, only got 1 shot in before it murdered me.

It's much more difficult than many KZbin channels has made me believe. It seems not possible to kill it with three rifle shots and low experience on it. I I'm level 3 in rifle and short practice because rifles are much more scarce now in the game. I'm also low on arrows since I got no access to a forge yet... And even though I have dozens of revolver ammo, it seems unlikely to kill the cougar with that...

It's definitely possible, I killed it with a single arrow in the head at Archery level 2. You just have to be very lucky and get a critical.

@@RuskR Same, but I also managed to hit it once before headshot. I wont say it was too difficult, but 100% exiting expirience, mostly because my first shot was right before the cat scratched me!

I have killed the cat 4 times and it takes about 2-3 shots in the face or 5-6 shots in the body with the bow and it also doesn't bleed. Make sure you don't get severed lacerations from the cat because it's bugged. I die from severed lacerations, I bleed out sooner at 8ish hours instead of 12 hrs.

I had 3 separate encounters with cougars so far. The first two I had to run away. The third time I managed to kill it with one headshot with Barb's rifle. It seems to be a matter of circumstances I think.

Well, they keep updating it, so of course we gotta keep going! There's more horribly dangerous, remarkably beautiful Canadian wilderness to freeze to death in. I have to at least check it out
