Hi, thanks for pointing that out. I will be more careful next time. The final answer should still be correct I believe.

It can be solved in a much easier way as follows based on conservation of energy. Potential energy of the mass at the top of the ramp= Mgh Assuming there is no fictional loss on the ramp, this energy will be consumed by the work done by the friction on the rough horizontal surface within the stretch of d, which is equal to uMgd where u is coefficient of kinetic friction. So uMgd=Mgh Hence, u = h/d Solved.

Hi @milanbasu3894 thank you for the comment. Using conservation of energy is definitely much easier than what I did. I guess using kinematics is just another way approach to this problem if you dont want to deal with using energy.

Since they mentioned diameter in the question, can you explain how you directly substituted it as r/4 because it is stated that D(moon) = D(Earth)/4 so that would mean to get the radius r it would be (De/4)/4, turning into de/8?
@YourTutorAB
@YourTutorAB 3 ай бұрын
Hello @harinesh1454. If Moon's diameter is 4 times smaller than Earth's diameter, then the Moon's radius will also be 4 times smaller than Earth's radius. For example: If Earths diameter is 8, then Earth's radius is 8/2 = 4. Since Moon's diameter is 4 times smaller than Earth's then the moon's diameter would 8/4 = 2. So the moon's radius will be 2/2 = 1. Even if we were to work with diameter for the question, we would still get the write answer. instead r for the moon we would write De/8 and instead of r for earth we would write de/2. Solving with these values gets you the same 2/9 answer at the end.
