Hi, Any tricks to remove the contacts from a search unit edge connector? I am replacing a 30-pin connector with a connector that has no contacts, just spaces. I have to move each wire to the replacement. Hopefully, Paul

I like to pick up broken old SSB Cb rigs for $20 or so, then fix them, then mod them for 10 meters, and possibly 12 meters if their design allows broader bandwidth, tune them up, perhaps switch to better finals and use them for a while, then sell them or trade them to hams who want a 10 meter mobile rig but don't know how to repair or mod them. Knowledge saves a lot of money in the ham radio hobby. I almost never buy gear that already works, too expensive, and fixing and tuning up radios is the real fun in ham radio.

Is that a cybernet chassis, looks very familiar.. 2sc2166 output tranny with 3 coils?? Hey, yes it is. You can easily tweak that for several more watts!!! Swap with a 2sc1969 RF output tranny and adjust the coils with a frequence counter, SWR meter and ideally an oscilliscope for the best results.

Oh yeah, piggybacking the LCC1736 onto the LCC1737, adding a switch and a cap and voila, mid-band....Back when mid-band was something new!!!

Back in the 80's i was the local rig doctor. Rotel, York, Binny 5*. All used the legendary and oh so moddable cybernet chassis. My Hygain V was super super low, to super super hi, splits, KC shift, EPROMED to hell and back... Oh how i miss those days....

In the USA a General Class ham license is easy to get, and then you can do all of that stuff on 10 meters and 12 meters with old CB's. Or you can mod rigs on any other ham band. Add digital frequency control to crystal-controlled 50's radios, whatever you like. I mod 100W VHF biz band radios for the 2 meter ham band. Great fun, and legal. Ham radio in the USA is the legal big brother of CB radio, an unending Good Old Days of radio.

You need to pick yourself up a digital microscope with a screen. The one I have has a hdmi out as well. Makes life much easier with the small solder joints etc . They also have a sd card to record your work. Give Dcorn microscope a search

I buy Iceland's long life milk in 1 litre cartons, I buy 12 at a time on offer, good value and lasts for ages. Stopped buying fresh milk ages ago always went off too quick. I love the taste of sterilized milk, alway's have done.

if the meter is too small for the hole you could fit a bezel around the meter

Hi Andy you could do with a de-buring tool. they are cheap and are a lot easier than using a stanley knife.

Reminds me of that Oak Furniture Land scam advert that was banned "Aint no Veneer in ere". They tried saying it was an oak wrap and not a veneer 😆🤣
