At 58:20 Dr. Gazarro answered why the ADA's NCOIL agreement harmed dentistry. And there still is no reasonable answer why the ADA excluded experts like Drs. Gazarro, Mo Ruzkallah, & Abe Abdul.

22:14 Dr Gazerro is a gentleman. "It's not that we were excluded, but we weren't asked to come to the table to voice our opinions or voice our knowledge...". "We'd already written a bill..." 23:00"I have no knowledge of why those of us that had the best knowledge of the bill were left out." (I'm not that much of a gentleman. Yes, you and Mo Rizkalleh were excluded!)

While some dentists are very quick to express unwavering distrust of any dentist who ever worked as a consultant to a dental insurance company, it is critical to listen to the real value here: Dr Gazerro learned the ins and outs of how they operate and how they think and used that experience when he served on the Council on Dental Benefits. (I dare anyone to accuse him of being a shill for the ins cos, sabotaging the efforts of the Council to serve the needs of the ins cos...but that is exactly the sort of distrust people have expressed, in general.)

18:40 "...If we don't have the right and the opportunity to call out these violations of our own rules and regulations, no matter what degree of result of these violations is, it's a real systemic problem within the system and we are not likely to drop it at this stage. 19:15 ...(we're not satisfied with this result, and) particularly we are not satisfied with the way it violated the processes and procedures that are in place." So my take on the crux of the problem is that the State Board of Trustees got Dr Bader's district to accept the changes in Board representation where 1 Trustee now represents 2 Districts, through means of threats and intimidation, including quashing their right to file ethics charges to be heard by a separate Ethics committee to decide the rightness or wrongness of what transpired regarding how the State Board got the result they demanded.
@bloomdds
@bloomdds 4 ай бұрын
7:40 The number of State Trustees was cut in half by combining districts and having a Regional Trustee that represents 2 Districts, rather than 1 Trustee per District. How close to exactly parallel is this to what we heard about in CA? That is, whatever power there is in a Board of Trustees, there is suddenly half the number of people sharing the power.

The reason the CDA does not allow Simmons or any other dentist to diagnose sleep disorders as a dental condition is because of me. I was working for Simmons as His front office assistant , and at the same time sending his patient and financial files to the CDA, and other government agencies . They saw that He was a complete fraud, and only trying to get his greedy hands on insurance money . He is indeed a criminal and has a serious problem with objective truth and perception….. Simply ask his colleagues Alan Howard , and Jonathan Greenberg ( from which He bought His practice from) . I also ratted out those con-men to the government. The person who answers his phones in His office , is indeed His partner in crime/wife , Pamala Simmons . She is just as greedy and corrupt as He is !!! All of these greedy sub-human excuses for “people” were put on a FBI watchlist. Simmons is a Con-man , who speaks with a fake accent, and when you confront him about his lies , he will start bitting his fingers to the point where he draws blood

23:48 "We've got to grow to be very beneficial and valid..." Beneficial for whom? Current members? Current non-members? For other organizations that represent medium and large-scale employers of dentists? Whoa, hold on there... ADA must be very beneficial to dentists, especially clinical dentists, both members and non-members. Those employers of clinical dentists are not "our people". Those employers of clinical dentists have their own organization(s) tasked with being beneficial for them. ADA has lately conflated the need to be beneficial for the clinical dentists with being beneficial for their employers. That is not right.

22:39 "Are we focusing on the best ways to support our members for the future using them as input? Yes." Er, um, no. I see a big disconnect between these words and the goings on at the ADA. Among them is the total dismissal of dentists who are vocal on social media (eg Dentistry In General on FB) and a petition signed by 1400 dentists asking for a re-do on the NCOIL DLR Model which is the opposite of focusing on the best ways to support ADA members for the future. That some at ADA can say out loud "they don't matter, they're just a minority" is the opposite of using them as input regarding the future.
@bloomdds

The NCOIL compromised "model" essentially says the dental insurance industry gets a long period of time to continue with the status quo. (That status quo includes no pressure to spend more premium money on patient care, but also maintains the sense of ins cos working together, rather than competing with each other.) Regardless of exactly when a company might get nudged into compliance, it will be a LONG time before any employers, patients, or dentists have any sense that an insurance "reform" was passed in any state that adopts this "model". It's almost like a vague promise has been made for future generations to maybe one day possibly see 3rd party payers give fully insured patients an improvement in coverage as the ins cos might then actually compete with each other. While the NCOIL agreement might be given the label of "Model Legislation" it is a very far cry from "Ideal Legislation" in terms of it being open to various interpretations, all favorable to ins cos, and in terms of lacking any reforms that create better dental coverage for fully insured patients any time soon. What totally escapes our attention is how and why the ADA agreed with this "model" and why they defend it as good for patients. Why are the benefits of this negotiation not apparent to most dentists?

Great interview! BTW- many corporate dental operations (DSOs) operate under "stealth branding." Unless one is an insider, no one really knows who owns a specific dental practice. Is the practice independently owned & operated by small business dentistry? Or, is the dental practice beneficially owned by a private equity, which installs a nominal sham-owner dentist? I finally finished listening to the end. FANTASTIC clearity came from listening and taking notes. The "NCOIL Compromised Model Legislation" ought to be rejected in April, as it is not an insurance reform... it is more like a confirmation of their existing model. If NCOIL members are cognizant of a duty to their dentally insured constituents, then they have to ask that NADP and ADA go back to the drawing board...and we should respectfully do as inscos tend to do: delay and decline. Among major revelations from Mo is that we need to let Q2 have a good 2 years in MA to generate honest data, which will be more accurate and more meaningful than 3 yrs of adulterated data that would come from the NCOIL Compromised definitions.

A DLR of 85% packed with benefits only for the insurance companies is a horrible deal the ADA made for our patients and our profession. For example, a maximum of 5% of premiums for QIA IN THE NUMERATOR (when medicine has 0.3% of the premium) is a disgrace for the ADA. QIA is a cost that typically the insurance industry uses for their own benefits such as marketing costs or siphoning money to non profits to pay out millions in insurance executives’ salaries. In addition, Mr. Westfall, a State Farm Insurance Agent, is not Dentistry’s friend as Mr. Olson stated here when Agent/Broker Commissions are included in the Numerator which again artificially raises the DLR percentage unlike the Massachusetts DLR. From everything I have read and heard, there is no compromise when one side has every detail in their favor and the ADA has nothing. Unfortunately, this ADA DLR agreement in no way is reflective of a fair compromise. In addition, the ADA DLR agreement does not compare to the Massachusetts DLR and for the ADA to claim victory just because they have a “DLR agreement” is a sham that hurts everyone, especially our patients. No deal would have been better than creating a DLR Equation with so much potential areas ifor abuse by the insurance industry.

Nothing but laws against fraud and anti-trust, which should be adequate. Should be. But get specific: are you talking about the NCOIL compromise? If so, the illegal collusion you predict would only benefit the worst of inscos. Why would they all collude just for them? I don’t think you hit the nail on the head regarding key issues.

I greatly appreciate Bob and everyone who participated for taking their time to discuss these very important topics and events. I want to see the ADA grow and dentists develop a healthy relationship with insurance that benefits the patients and the wet glove practitioners providing dental care. We are not the employees of insurance companies and our relationship with our patients must be protected in such a way that patients get quality of care for the money spent, either towards a dental plan or ffs, and whole dental practice can make a good living. Dental work is hard work and it's an essential service for the wellbeing of our society. It's worth fighting for. If we are being sold out to be grunts for greedy corporations, then we have no choice but to raise hell.

Don't get discouraged reading the comments, here or on other facebook posts, every negative comment made here is also a sign of dentists who care about the field of dentistry as well as people who appreciate that a platform was given to us to relay our input. Hopefully, this is just the start or more involved comprehensive discussions. The townhalls seem like a great idea for the near future.
