1:56:00 sun = king; moon = high priest; stars = lesser rulers like Sanhedrin. 1/3 stars being knocked out of the sky is the death of members of the Sanhedrin during the siege of Jerusalem. Sun going dark was end of Herodian rule. Moon turning to blood was death of the high priest.

I think it is important to distinguish between atonement as “reconciliation” and atonement as “reparation for a wrong or an injury”. This word, because of the evolution in its meaning and the way Biblical translators have chosen to use it, caused a lot of confusion for me and it took a lot of time and effort to clear it up. It was only after doing an immense amount of study, especially with regard to the Greek and Hebrew words in the scriptures which are rendered into English as “atone(ment)”, that I was able to recognize that much of the confusion was a result of this distinction between reconciliation and that which can lead to reconciliation. Kapar can maintain relationship or lead to reconciliation. Likewise, “reparation for a wrong or an injury” can maintain relationship or lead to reconciliation. However, kapar or “reparation for a wrong or an injury” are not equivalent to reconciliation itself.

Years ago I was reading one of these particularly difficult passages in the Old Testament. I was younger and foolish back then and I got offended. I stopped reading and started praying. I asked God "Why did you allow this to happen? Didn't you love them?" God, in God fashion did not answer my question with a statement of fact. He didn't resolve my curiosity with the exact why's He did things. Why? Because that would never have solved anything. The next time I was "offended" I would have come to Him again and so on and so on with the same questions. Instead in response He asked me a simple question. A question that answered the question my heart was REALLY asking: "Do you believe I am good?" That was it. It left me stunned. That was what I was really asking and He hit the nail on the head. He brought it out on the table so it could be dealt with. His wisdom, His knowledge, His understanding, His love, His mercy!!!

@@savemyplace235 I completely get this. Years ago I read the passage that I felt said that it was okay to beat your slave to within an inch of his life as long as you didn't actually kill him. It hit me hard, and I basically dumped the Bible on God and told him that's not the God I believe in, and he's going to have to work this out because I don't know if I can trust the Bible or not. It took away my desire to read scripture for a long time. But now, I just have a really honest relationship with God about those kinds of things. The latest is the guy who was stoned to death for collecting firewood on the Sabbath. I told God that I'm sorry, but that just really seems overly extreme to me. But that kind of honesty is how he can work in us to help us understand. I realized that there is a lot more to the story than what's actually written about the event. This was blatant disregard for something that everyone in the community knew about and followed. He could have asked someone else if he needed a day's worth of firewood. It was so weird that the people didn't even know what to do with him. They took him into custody and asked God about it. It is connected to what Amber and Spencer are talking about as far as what holds the whole community together and on the right track in a very dangerous world. It still seems extreme, but I know that God loves all of us, and if that man was repentant, he went to a place of comfort and fathomless love in the bosom of Abraham.

In the day of atonement, are you saying that Jesus was the sacrificed lamb and Satan was the scape goat? You said in Ezekiel Jesus is portrayed as both lambs. This is no I understood it and I tie it together with Jesus being both 100% man and 100% god. Now I’m not sure which was the lamb and which was the goat, but Jesus died to bring us back to God, and then went to hades (the wilderness) to carry the sins of man, shown in the violence, betrayal, hatred, etc, of the cross back to Satan who, as you said, was the author of sin.

Ransom theology: the question raised is who is paid off in this ransom exchange? Is that not possibly pushing the metaphor of ransom too far? Further than it's meant to go? The price of our rescue is the death of our Lord. In that sense a price is paid. Not necessarily to a recipient. (As Warren explains while im typing this message).

what about this verse: Hebrews 9:22 "And without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins"?
@WhenDeepCallsDeep-Amber
@WhenDeepCallsDeep-Amber 12 күн бұрын
@@juliacozicova as part of the offering of the animal, the blood was used because it was the life of the animal. The flesh was the offering. The blood was used at the base or applied as part of the process. The blood was not the offering itself. Only the flesh (meat) of the animal was put on top of the alter to be burned. That burning was for the smoke to bring the essence of the offering before God. The blood was not part that went up to God for him to enjoy. The blood cleansed the space for God to participate with the people and the sacrifice.

@juliacozicova 12 күн бұрын
@@WhenDeepCallsDeep-Amber Thank you so much for answering. So, yes, about blood represents life, that's true. That's why God forbids to eat blood even in New Testament. To apply what you say to this verse in Hebrew you mean Jesus blood cleans the way to God so we can come in repentance to be forgiven . Am I getting your statement correctly?
@WhenDeepCallsDeep-Amber
@WhenDeepCallsDeep-Amber 12 күн бұрын
Correct! The blood applies to the space! The space we meet with God, however that looks, is cleansed so we have somewhere to sit in God's presence. It's called sacred space. It can be a physical place like the Temple or it can be spiritual like our soul. Either way, the space meets God's demand for clean sacred space and the offering itself makes us redeemed to enter that clean space. I hope that helps! I'd be really interested in more insight into the Day of the Lord and whether or not it is the same as when the New Testament uses the phrase the Day of Christ. There is alot packed into what is to go down on that Day. Many say it's not a single day but over a thousand years, others say it's instantaneous and then is the end. I've found that it's been translated wrongly on one occasion, so far, in the New Testament where my newer ones say Day of Christ but my older versions have Day of the Lord. I absolutely trust that God gave us His Word. What I don't trust is the men who have passed it down to us throughout the centuries not having their own biases in their head when reading and translating it. I've heard that the book of James wasn't originally James but Jacob and King James just wanted a book carrying his name so he updated that name. Typically names do not change just because you go to another country. David would not be pronounced the same here as in Isreal and an Isreali will correct your pronunciation. Anyone whose name is called out improperly would correct them when asking if they meant their properly pronounced name. So why did we translate Jesus's name? I think that to really get to the truth of His Word you need to understand things the way they were given. Then, I've heard you say, Jesus is even more spectacular. If we could see Him from a Jewish perspective whose eyes are open it seams they'd get a fuller picture. I really just want to know God the way He truly is and not some misconcieved idea that is in my head.

25:23 Jews at this point still think they are God's chosen and those that don't convert HATE Christians to the point of murder. Throughout the NT, the #1 persecutor of the church is the Jews and its not even close. The Jewish system was the ONLY enemy that had a real chance of squashing the church before it was fully established (in its infancy), which is why it had to be protected and its persecutor personally dealt with by God.
@swordmasterpublications
@swordmasterpublications 24 күн бұрын
45:20 vs 15 is definitely eschatological, but it is not the end of time eschatological. He is speaking of nations generally here, not individuals. The Jews had been broken off and their only hope of resurrection is within the church. The whole book of Romans is about how the Jews and Gentiles are reconciled in the church, the explanation of the Great Mystery. The Jewish system was about to be destroyed, though by then they would have thought (thanks in part to Nero) that they had almost destroyed the church (Egyptian typology, but now the Jews are Egypt and the church is Israel; Babylonian typology circa Ezekiel 37, but now the Jews are Babylon and the church is Israel). You have the resurrection of the cause of Christ after Jerusalem (Sodom/Egypt/Babylon) is destroyed and those Jews had hope of resurrection (as a cause/nation) only within the church.

1:12 interesting. I would be interested to know more about his experience and “requirements” to become “Orthodox”. One of the push-backs I have heard regarding EO is that you are required to affirm that there is no salvation outside the Orthodox Church. I’ve seen you here and there on other channels/chats, but I couldn’t successfully search for you. I finally saw a comment you left somewhere which gave me the breadcrumbs I needed! I was baptized into the Greek Orthodox Church as a baby and raised within her. I became born again as an adult and found that I could not remain. The things mentioned in the podcast are true, but not all of the truth. What caused me to leave was: 1. Icon veneration which is much more than was spoken of here. I understand he is a new convert and perhaps attends a less strict parish, but Orthodoxy claims to be unchanged since the days of Christ, and so the Councils need to be read and accepted, and not a looser interpretation by parish Priests. Icon veneration is absolutely required by the Church. A member is required to bow down to/kiss the icons or they are anathemetized. 2. The damnation of all other Christians outside of the EO. We had one Sunday each year, the Feast of Orthodoxy, where the priest reads aloud all of the anathemas, and then after each one he shouts, “anathema”, and then we respond back, “anathema.” It includes sayings like we curse those who are not Orthodox. I know it sounds impossible, but if you research it, you will probably find it. 3. The Mariology is much, much more than Mary was the vehicle for Jesus to be born, hence she is to be honored above other saints. Many prayers ask her to save us, declare her to be our only hope, our Light in the darkness, our mediator, etc. Even her title is Παναγία, All Holy. After Communion we would sing the Akathist of the Theotokos. If you can find an English copy, look at what is said of her. It seems to place her within the Trinity. And the Paraklesis to the Theotokos also has language that I would only reserve for God. We also had a day each year where the Procession of Mary (from the protoevangelion of James) would be celebrated. It was a very regal procession. Not even Jesus seemed to be honored that much on Easter. 4. Even questioning any of the decisions within the councils is anathema. 5. I know they will say otherwise, but the Bible is, at best, secondary. First comes the church, and then from my experience - my Priest’s word, and then the Scriptures, but probably a monk’s or saint’s words. Things like the dormition of Mary, icon veneration, not being sure of salvation, I couldn’t find in the Scriptures, or at least not be convinced of their arguments for them, but if I didn’t submit and accept them, then I was prideful and western and it was anathema. All of these things deeply troubled me in my spirit. I felt like I was splitting in half. I cannot explain the anguish. I still cry if I left myself feel it too much. There are lovely things about the Eastern Orthodox Church, but I believe that there have been many accretions, and the ones I listed are some of the most grievous. I pray that reformation would come to the Eastern Orthodox Church. I love the ideas and attitudes of your guest, but he was speaking things that are not acceptable to the Orthodox Church. I believe the early church was as he explained, and that’s what I would like all of us to return to. 🕊️
