That is an interesting way of looking at it, and like your D&B song. I am a bit confused by his machine. I am trying to figure out a workflow for doing live, improvisational DAWless gigs. Any tips? Your idea gives me the idea of just creating a bunch of scenes that would be basics parts I then kind of jump back and forth on, and jam (using the EP-133 and maybe a small synth). Maybe that could work.

All that wasted money, time and energy to sample a couple notes and have it repeated over and over and over, and listening to it over and over and over, and then thinking you're some kind of special. SMFH.

Crazy drop starts 0:16 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Once again PO33 is a filthy little beast! I produce jungle/breakbeat hardcore/ dnb in a DAW and using different hardware but each time I take this little thing final effect is soundclash badboy old school jungle with chopped breaks and riddim samples. With 4 channels you have to be creative just like in old school days with Octamed tracker.

Interesting question. I suppose it depends on how engaged you want to be with the creation of the music while performing live. Lately I've been playing live DnB with my SP-555. I sample most of the track to a single pad for playback and then I play live synths and manipulate effects on top of it. It's kind of a hybrid approach between DJ and live sets. That being said, the Rhythm is the most competent at being a "groove box" of those options. It's a highly underrated sampler IMO.

Great demo! Also fun to apply fx to a drum track and then write it, lather-rinse-repeat if desired for some wonderful sonic mangling. Cross fading between mangled/original drums can be a great sound, but eats up tracks of course. DRUMS CAN BE MONO ON A SINGLE TRACK! Almost no one will notice or care if they do. Just thinking out loud, again, great work.

I like this a lot! For the "chords," is that a piano sample? Where did you source it, please, if you don't mind sharing. Would enjoy hearing more of your M:S work. Maybe some tutorials to help newbies like me, that would be great, too! Thanks.

Thanks so much for the kind words. The piano chords (and most of the samples actually) came from an older DnB sample pack called "Skyline." It has a focus on melodic, atmospheric and liquid Drum and Bass sounds. If you'd like to hear more M:S work, I have a lot of videos using it including a full DnB set as well as a full downtempo set made with this device. Both are here on my channel in my elektron playlist. Let me know if you have questions about using it and I'll definitely be happy to answer those too.

Sounds great! How do you feel about the Rhythm holding lots of Jungle breaks? Is there enough room? I felt quite let down by the PO KO 33 and really like the Circuit Tracks
@MattGreerMusic
@MattGreerMusic Ай бұрын
It'll be fine for holding a bunch of breaks. There's a limit to how long a sample can be (32 seconds maybe? I forget) and a limit to how many slots you can have in a project but you can have a whole bunch of projects and it's more than adequate to have a ton of different tracks worth of audio data on this thing. Not even comparable to the KO in terms of storage capacity. The KO is like 1 track at a time. You can have numerous albums worth of songs on this device and if you run out, just put in a new SD card and keep going.

first of all, that D+B sound is amazing, did you use all built in samples/sounds? secondly, this video convinced me I need one of these. one thing I was wondering, can you set up individual scenes to be in different keys, and even modes? for instance, modulate from A Dorian to D Mixolydian, within the same project. thanks!
@MattGreerMusic
@MattGreerMusic 2 ай бұрын
Hey there. Thanks a lot. I did not use any built in samples for this track. I tend to do best when I seek my samples specifically for the project and with a sound in mind. Anyways, I am not 100% sure about being able to use different scales on different scenes but I believe you can. The reason I say that is I'm always sampling melodic sounds for their timbre but they can often be out of key with the track so I'm always trying different keys and scales to make that new sample work with the composition and I do that all the time so I *believe* that the scale is set as a parameter to the sample and could thus be different between different scenes and sounds. I know that when I choose a new scale, it doesn't change the note content of the other sounds so they seem to be independently programmable. Thanks again for watching.

It’s an odd one...I have a fair few Elektron boxes and after using them for years my ear can now pick up when someone uses them, especially the smaller ones...but how can that be? We’re loading our own sounds and doing our own ears mixes etc, so how does a track have a certain machines’ sound?! Perhaps it’s converters or components, tis a headscratcher. Oh...great fun track btw :)

For what it might be worth, that bass would be way better as long legato lines instead of stacatto jumping around, since the other elements are jumping around. It would balance them out. The sound is great though, I love that FM gnarly bass sound.

Definitely one of those tracks that can be revisited down the road. I keep a "not working" folder -- sometimes I dip in and think "I don't know what I was thinking, I dig it now!" and sometimes I hear it fresh and realize precisely what it needs. And other times I'm like, "yep, still not working!" LOL

Have you tried doing all (A, B, C, D) patterns for you song in scene 01, then 1. select the 4 ABCD patterns for the intro 2. commit to the next scene 3. go back to scene 1 4. repeat steps 1-3 for chorus, verse, etc.
