Ooooooohh, so overtones are caled OVER tones because they are present at the head and sub harmonics are called SUB harmonics as they are present lower? Or is it just called that because over tones are high and sub harmonics are low

I've alway thought this was super complicated to do. And that only a few people could learn it. I thought you'd have to control your throat muscles in a certain way. This is not complitaced at all. It's super simple. Getting good at it is probably hard but the basic idea is super simple. Why haven't anyone explained this before?

Have you tried closing your eyes while listening to overtone singing? When I listen I can see outlines of what I was just looking at - like this phone, whats in the screen, my hands holding the screen and my legs in the position I'm sitting on the floor. I'd love to hear if this is a thing? I wonder if the vibration effects our ability to see more

Ive been practicing this occasionally for years. I do it mainly on long drives and dedicated a lot of my driving on a recent long trip (I live in Australia) to practicing. I have gotten more consistent but trying to figure it out myself meant that it’s hit and miss in achieving more pure, clear overtones. I think your basic instructions have helped to link together the various things I figured out (such as the different vowels with e being a good start to tongue placement) so hopefully this will get me closer to being able to pull out the clear overtones whenever I want.

I would like to know if anyone of you who saw this tutorial managed to sing overtones. And if yes, how long time did it take until you succeeded?
@AjCzeresko7 ай бұрын
By the looks of my comments through the years, many (most?) say they are able to do it in their first few tries, even if it was faint. With practice, your overtones will get louder and clearer!

Wow, I had no idea it was that easy. Reliably controlling it is the hard part. It seems to be a lot easier than subharmonics, at least from my experience.

Can you remove the overtone from the voice?
@AjCzeresko8 ай бұрын
If you removed overtones, you would just have a plain sine wave frequency. Overtones is what give everything its character. Watch Be Smart's video on vowels to learn why that is.
@rosanafurtadomartins58418 ай бұрын
@@AjCzeresko Sorry, I expressed myself poorly, what I wanted to say is whether you can stop emphasizing the harmonics of your voice or not? I'm asking this because when I sing songs that have the vowel u and i together, accidental overtones come out, understand?
@AjCzeresko7 ай бұрын
@@rosanafurtadomartins5841 That's an area I have little expertise. However, I would recommend learning about choral enunciation. You'll notice formally trained singers "over-expressing" mouth shapes and it results in better vowel clarity. Since vowels are the manifestation of your overtones, I would suspect that to be the cure for unwanted amplified overtones.
@rosanafurtadomartins58417 ай бұрын
@@AjCzeresko OK thanks. There's something that I didn't understand very well here in your video, in the part where you say that it's only to move the tongue behind the mouth, is it to move just the front part of the tongue or just the back?
@AjCzeresko7 ай бұрын
@@rosanafurtadomartins5841 Any movement will affect the overtones including changing your lips.
