So much can be learned from this episode. I especially like the story about a person learning PowerFX by having ChatGPT generate PowerFX for her.

Really enjoyed your discussion. It helped me map it to my experience with Jira. While I’m in between jobs, is there an access from MS 365 for personal use?

Thanks for tuning in! We personally haven't tried it for home use, but here is an article that might be able to help: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/user-guide/sign-up-invite-teammates?view=azure-devops.

Interesting discussion on the use of some ADO items. I'll give decisions a shot, I have never used that before. I'd love to add that Change requests are great for use in network operations and can be used very effectively with a CAB in your change management process.
@dynamicshotdish

Depending on how you've configured your ADO environment, you may need to manually add Decisions as a custom work type, but it has really saved a lot of back and forth email with the client. I'm glad you've found ways to make it helpful, especially for working with a CAB team as they can be pretty particular. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Ali and Ashley for having me as a guest on the hallowed Dynamics Hotdish. I really enjoyed our discussion and you gave me a lot to think about and some new experiments to try running with my teams. (Sorry about the gain on my mic spoiling the audio quality of your video. That's embarrassing!). - Neil

We loved having you on and loved the conversation! Speaking for myself (Ashley), we've actually made some adjustments to how we use ADO to try new things based on this conversation. We are continuing to experiment to find the best options for us - an insightful person gave me that advice :)

Similar to ERP systems it presents 'some' rigidity (it's basically 3 apps into ONE) in how your process must Flow! So it needs more thought for sure in order to use the main features plus adherence to certain workflows in order to produce the end results. But, once you get the logic of it it actually flows pretty nicely. I have seen PMs loving it after playing with it. Unlike Project Desktop it is easy to start.

This is such a key point - how MS has rolled 3 applications into 1. So it's already going to be complex. I have found that PMs love it as well for the analysis it can provide on project profitability. Thanks for the comment!

Like Antti says Project Operations is one of the most misunderstood modules of Dynamics today. It is a big application like Field Service, so there are tons of things to set for the product to work. Part of it is the element of Project Management/Resource Management. These tools are huge and have lots of dependencies and moving parts that need to work together. The other is the fact that Project Operations was built to generate 'Actuals' for ERP systems, so it has, dare I say it, a bit of an ERP way of thinking in it which adds to the settings and processes that must happen!

Good chat guys.... A few thoughts. Converting to Managed isn't hard: Export as unmanaged and move to a dev env. Re-Export as managed and deploy to prod. Then delete the unmanaged layer. Not hard. (Except for a few components such a calculated fields and some entity settings for which the removal of the unmanaged layer doesn't work, requiring a ticket for MSFT to remove). YES - Add required components is the devil! Solution segmentation - breaking your app into separate solutions is critical for large teams so you don't step on each other. Set 'Allow Customizations' on components to No to ensure they aren't modified in prod. If you failed to use a solution publisher and haven't yet deployed to prod, can use CLI to export, and replace on all components via code, deploy to a clean env to test, then delete and reimport to dev. Can save a ton of time if you need to fix non-use of a publisher.

Hey Merlin & Ashley, This particular podcast has been "Amazing" for me! So, I've been the D365 Administrator / end user support for the last 5 years in my current role. My question would be about the ongoing training plan for the D365 Admin ... Should the D365 get ongoing training? my main issue as a D365 Admin was getting to know where to get updates from ....then i found you guys! you totally inspired me.... Regarding, who builds new stuff in the system after the release.... that would be my job... and I totally sit within the buisness :) but totally getting assistance from IT if need be. My IT totally washed their hands of D365. We have been using D365 as it should be and so I sit within Sales :) Ashley's point of IT not having money and so adding the person in the business is bang on point. You guys are doing an amazing job, cant wait to hear the next one. Shaheen
