When I was a kid, I was naive enough to believe in santa, but smart enough to know about time zones, so I always argued to my friends that santa existed because he can actually deliver the presents all around the world in one night 😂

Time zones give me such a headache. You're telling me if i just take a plane, i can arrive somewhere else on the previous day?

Time zones are highly political and not scientific. We could create even time zones using evenly spaced latitude lines without any exceptions

And China only has 1 time zone for the entire county. Can you imagine if the US had only 1? 7am in NY with a sunrise would mean the sun doesn't rise in LA until ~10am.

in this year alone I've seen 3 instances of people giving times of e.g. releases in a time zone that's not observed, like saying EST when they meant EDT xd

You're not accurate about Antarctica. I worked at Troll Station and the time goes from UTC to UTC+2. Other stations follow other time zones.

Time zones are stupid, just make one universal one and adjust when you wake up for work.
@datcheesecakeboi67455 сағат бұрын
That's even more stupid
@yellowfelloh8 сағат бұрын
time is a social construct: all of china has one time zone; india and sri lanka are offset from UTC by five and a half hours; the clock used to calculate UTC wasn't invented until 1955; we count leap years but not leap seconds
@datcheesecakeboi67455 сағат бұрын
It's not tho
@yellowfelloh4 сағат бұрын
@@datcheesecakeboi6745 there are over 30 different calendars, each with different counting systems. for example, the ethiopian calendar uses 12 months of 30 days and a 13th month of 5 or 6 days. it is currently 2016 in that calendar. the traditional chinese calendar uses the moon to measure months, and epochs are used to reference the year (there are 5 different acceptable years, apparently). the gregorian calendar is just the most widely used to universalize time for the sake of business
