Im not familiar with tone chokes...sounds like the pickup is clearer or brighter. Is a choke a component of the tone circuit built into the bass?
@robertellison4691
@robertellison4691 9 күн бұрын
The choke is connected to the tone pots. It is basically a filter that removes some of the mid-range. They came in Gibson EB-3 basses and 335 guitars in the 60's and 70's. The one in my bass is not an original Gibson choke, but an aftermarket one by Armstrong in the UK.

I just listened to the midscoop video I'm liking the midrange I hear in this video. It's growly but not too over the top.

Anyone know if you can string through the body with medium-scale Labella 45-105 flats?

An unusual track to see in a KZbin video. Nice to hear something another than radio favorites "Born to Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride".

Thank you. I'm seriously thinking for getting one of these basses, and by listening to your video through my headphones, I heard some qualities I like. I love Santana's studio and live versions of "She's Not There".

45 / 100 string gauge is the standard string. de addario. so all strings get the same out put. the bass is pergectlh set up for that gauge. the only drawback is the bass is neck heavy and the body has sharp edges, otherwise perfect... lacks a lil low mid.

Just wanted to say thanks for putting this video up - there's not a lot of stuff out there about the DiMarzio X2N-B (DP125) and this playthrough convinced me that it was the way to go for pickups for my Epi Les Paul Standard bass refit. Nice playing too. Cheers!

Thanks for that, I'm trying to figure out which pickups to mount in my EB-0 in those same positions. Seems like filtertrons and half-rounds are a pretty good inexpensive way to get near a bisonic and pyramid gold sound.

I just received the same Banshee,(minus the Geezer's) love it.......but I also have several basses outfitted with The EMG Geezer Butler pickups,(which I do like) but I also like the stock pickup. Can I ask why you swapped out the original for the Geezer? I know tone is subjective and I may do the same thing just would like your opinion. Thanks !

Thinking about making this change. I read that the U5 ships with 40-90 gauge strings, and the La Bellas are 43-104. Did this make a big difference in playability? Tension?
@Rossi2145
@Rossi2145 8 ай бұрын
Update, i ended up putting on La Bella 760FS-S flat wounds (45-105) and it makes a huge difference. Before, the strings were actually unmanageably floppy, now they have some stiffness to them and play much nicer
@ratboy717
@ratboy717 10 ай бұрын
How do you find the tension on the E string? I ordered a set of the GHS precision for that same bass, but the E string (.095) is too floppy/dull - wishing I'd known about these before, as that E string is heavier gauge
