what really WAS this age? writing a descriptive book only points to the nearest possibility out of infinite worlds. t seems like a world that had advanced technology, evident with the architecture of columns and sweeping arches. and used the ever-present crystals as a power source. but somehow used a doomsday weapon that shattered the land and the sky.

What makes Amateria a fan favorite and the best of Myst III's ages is how the joyride at the end uses all the puzzle solutions in the joyride. None of the other ages do that - they're all just (fun puzzley) gates blocking you from reaching the joyride at the end. Amateria turns those gates that were blocking your path into bridges you zip over at the end, giving all the puzzle solving a tangible payoff in a way the other ages don't. This is even foreshadowed in J'nanin when the massive boulder that's in the way of reaching Amateria's linking book chamber turns into the path you will travel over in order to reach the book when you roll the boulder into the hole in the floor.

I animated and lit this 23 years ago. I love that people still post it on youtube. Jack Wall's music for the game was epic. Sadly two of the people who worked on this level have passed. James Rochelle was the texture artist. Every texture in this part was done by him. Also Francis Tsai, who was one of the art directors.
