Wow, a 4 legged Fisherman who'd have guessed lol. Fair Winds and Safe Travels guys. ❤ Oh seems .ike I might be getting somewhere at last, with a very big discount on a New Sailboat, but Not an Island Packet sadly, as I dont think enough Funds will come in for a big enough Piggybank, and its a Broker Agent for a Production Builder that Wants to have a Major direction Sgift towards Cruising Sailboats 👍 So first Priority forvthat I have told them is to concentrate on Shallow Draft of maximum 4feet 6 inches and an Air Draft Furling Mast Height of 45 feet which even withba good db Gain Aerial on it, no problem with most Bridge and Powerline heights, and frankly there shouldnt be any performance issues with the right design of Sail. They already do Only Single Rudders, and the below waterline Hull form between the Chines is also that of an excellent Sea Boat, and the Beam is about 4.5 mtrs so great for an Aft Cockpit Solar Arch. Standard is B&G instrumentation, which I won't allow on a Boat, so Raymarine instead, is definitely ok. LOA of Under 45 feet, and maximum heeling Angle is 18 degrees. So Things look up. I did ask what the maximum inboard engine size is, but Standard is 50 hp so I think I can Live with that, then after the Warranty has expired fit a Yanmar 80 hp with a ZF Saildrive (they're really good ) as a new engine package with the ZF can be had for under 6,000 dollars US. Ill probably get that for the well Run in low hours 50 hp Unit tbh. So Things are shaping up at last. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️

@@SailingZephyr PS. SV Tonic Boatwives Channelmon KZbin do a nice quick look-see Tour of the Dufour 44 on their channel . Must admit I don't like the Hexagonal Saloon Table - an easy change during Construction - as it messes up Port and Starboard Sea Berths ro use with Lee cloths on passage, but I like the split forward galley, as it really is the best for cooking under way, due to the least motion and great support for the Cook. Right now of Course it has moved up to top of the List Plan A Option, but I'm up to Plan E as Backups 😀 Though if equipment I want for Testing can be Delivered to La Rochelle, then exiting the Boat from there, means a Shot under 2 days Sail to La Corunna and a fast run from there to Gibraltar, and Provisioning there before heading to Cape Verde direct, and avoiding the Canaries - big yrouble brewing there due to mass immigration of illegals sadly, which also means keeping well clear of the African Coast. @@SailingZephyr Toby Young of Yachting World has literally just done a first look Tour of the Dufour 44 2 hours ago, a d you do get a glimpse of the superb Hull Form below the waterline and between the two Chines, that Um erto Felci the architect has managed to fit in. The maximum Heeling Angle is 18 degrees. That Hexagonal Dining table really Sucks though!, andmesses up Port and Starboard Settee Berths which with Leecloths, are pretty much essential for comfortable sleeping on passage - should be an easy fix though. Standard engine is the Volvo 50 hp Saildrive, biggestboption is turbo charged 60 hp, which frankly for a Cruising Sailboat isn't nearly big enough, thevold rulebofvthumb of 1 hp per foot of boat LOA was miles out, and it needs to be close to 2 hp per foot, or more tbh, andcthen, with a really good low rpm propulsion propeller like sayba Flexofold, you can get much better mpg than with a smaller engine, believe it or not. I don't actually rate the guy as a reviewer, the closest he can bring himself to condemn Ridiculous Twin Rudder designs, I think was his comment when reviewing the Dufour 41, about how nice it was to Sail a Single Rudder Yacht once again. Sigh. It just isn't good enough. Still, another pair of eyes with which to see the potential this 44 has, as the actual foundation is pretty good to build on for a damned good Cruising Sailboat with excellent Voysging Potential - it's nearly up there with the Beneteau Oceanis Range in my honest opinion. For the fridge, have you thought about changing the door to be a split one so you could just move items to the side to access things you have forgotten? As for the bimini, if you simply added zip in window panels, it would solve a lot, but not all, of your complaints. Hi Guys. Just a thought on that "Last Bid Window" to change , would it make sense to replace it with smaller square Skylights as no loss on the amount of light below, plus it may well work out cheaper and definitely so for future replacing, especially as your boat is a definite Keeper ? 🤔 Sucks that the Dodger Bimini is such an expensive Project 😞 So thoughts on a much bigger Atronger Aft Cockpit Solar Arch in say 34mm 316 Stainless - not that heavy for a decent amount of extra Solat, along with a dramatic Reduction in the Size, and therefore cost of the Bimini, to connect from the Arch to a Solid Dodger ? I've heard that the best Stainless Steel Fabricator is on the French side of St Maartin, but I was headed there in 2016, so don't know if he's still alive, or if there is someone better now. Also, watch out for Fake Sunbrella Cloth, which lasts less than 10 years, the genuine Sunbrella should do 20 years ? Best Wishes. Bob in Wales. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️

For the outside teak, I suggested using Semco Teak Sealer when you furnished in Annapolis. That was when I only had two years on my use of it. Now I have 4-years. I wash it down spring and fall and wipe on an additional coat with a 2" square patch of terry cloth. It still looks great, and water beads up on the surface. Over the years, I have tried everything from natural wood gone gray, to oils, to varnish. The Semco is the only thing I have ever tried that continues to work with minimal upkeep. The first time I did coated it over bare, sanded teak, I used 1/2 pint. I just finished that original pint after 4-years of spring and fall maintenance coats because once it is sealed the first time, it does not continue to soak into the wood. It comes in 4-color tones, and I like the lighter tones of Natural or Honey tone.

@@SailingZephyr Just to be clear, the Semco is different from all other teak finishes. When you put it on, it makes the teak waterproof, but it looks and feels like bare, unfinished sanded teak. It has no gloss and looks like nothing is there. It has a little bit of color but does not mask the grain at all. I sand with 100 grit or 150 at most and put it on with a rag. Some do not like the look because it does not give a glossy finish but personally, I prefer the natural look that lasts for a long time with no maintenance. It was developed to protect teak decks. If you do go with it, I would suggest using their 2-part cleaner to remove any left-over oil or decayed wood before finishing.

Hi Guys. Apparently one of the cheapest Marinas is the biggest one in the Caribbean on the East Side of Puerto Rico, brilliant for Provisioning with Costco, Walmart, etc and at Mainland prices (though I didn't find Mainland to be cheap in 2016 tbh, and you had to be really careful what you bought in WalMart - though their powdered Milk was as good as the best in the World, and Teak Oil, and Mobil One Synthetic Oil was really great value with them ). Also easy to get stuff delivered there from the Mainland, from Amazon etc. If I'm going to spend a few months in a Marina, I think that's the one I'm headed for - and once I've sorted out BVI Boat Registration - easy as a British Subject - I'll be doing an initial Provisioning there, and maybe another stop there before heading up to Massachusetts for Hurricane Season Haulout, check over and full servicing. presently though, I've been thrown into a total spin, as Darrell of Island packet has messaged me that they can indeed do a two head version of the IP 349, which for me was love at first sight, but to me, even a limited Day Head is vital as a second head if you have crew, or guests onboard, and it looked like single head was over the top luxurious, but the only option. The boat itself is admittedly a bit small, but is in line with pretty much every other Sailboat I've had, but is definitely much more Comfy. Plus definitely is in line with my perfect Draft at only 4 foot, which is 3 inches Less than my previous Endeavour 32. I'm also fine with the long Keel, and encapsulated Lead ballast. It will be a Custom Build and I'd have to have that anyway Now to see if my Piggybank Grows large enough for me to have my first new Sailboat. Fingers Crossed. Best Wishes and Sail Safe. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️

Hi Guys, further to my post in your how to buy a boat under 100 k to help boost the Google Algorithms, I've just heard back from Darrell of Island Packet yachts replying to my enquiry on whether a Two head version of the IP 349 is possible, if the Aft Cabin Cabinets could be trimmed a bit and a bit trimmed off the very large luxury head with shower next to the forward Cabin, would allow both the head on the port side next to the Companionway, pluscthen a single settee Berth to Port opposite to a Double Setee Berth on the Starboard side, and he has thrown a total spanner in the works by saying yes, it is possible with a Custom Build. If you entertain, two heads are vital. IP also do Selden in Mast Furling as standard, also sta Dard is Termite Proofing, and Custom but standard options are a really good hard Dodger and a Hard Aft Cockpit Arch, and big I take of breath a Draft of only 4 feet ! which is 3 inches less than my Endeavour 32. A 45 hp Direct Drive 4 cylinder Yanmar is standard. New Mast, new Standing Rigging, new Running Rigging, new Wiring, new plumbing, new features for disability me, new everything, and can be registered in the BVI and have a great shakedown cruise delivering it there. I'm only going to enquire how much, once my Piggybank is full, but omg, all to my specification down to the Anchor - oversized Lewmar Delta and all Chain- new Batteries, Solar, etc. should be a fair bit cheaper than the same sized Halberg Rassy, and actually a lot more comfortable, and as good a sea boat plus a lot cheaper than the IP 439 for long keel, Skeg Hung rudder lead ballast and a 4 foot Draft. Did I mention it has a 4 ft Draft ? 😂 Bob❤❤❤

Hi guys. Posting on this as apparently liking and posting on your older Channel videos, helps a lot with Google Algorithms. 🤔🌟👍 A good idea with secondhand boats, is to get the Newest Hull that you can get your hands on, then at least annually Polish it with a Polish that provides some UV Protection. A great Source of cheaper newer boats is the ex Charter fleet market. Bad idea apparently is to buy “Sold As Is” boats due to them frequently having bits taken off them to keep other boats going. If Damaged, say by a Hurricane, only go for those boats that have been returned to Duty in the Fleet, and which have been through the Phasing Out Process. If interested in any of the others, put in extremely low offers for them, which will leave plenty of margin to fix them up. Problems common with ex Charter Sailboats for Cruisers to avoid or note for Changing : - Too Many Charter boats have Deep Drafts, which has a big impact on the number of places you can get into and out of; - Some Sailboats have Twin Rudders which for Cruisers are a complete liability . For instance, If I’m heading up or down the East Coast of the USA, Twin Rudders and the large Fields of Crab and Lobster Pots, mean it is only Safe to Sail during the hours of Daylight and then with a constant watch which can be really Tiring ; - Every Charter Boat I’ve seen, has a Classic Mast, and for Sailcloth UV Protection, Cruisers today need in Mast Furling Mains, plus Sails tend to be cheap and bulk purchased Cross Cut Dacron, and Furling a Jib or Genoa to Reef it, can totally destroy the Sail Shape, In under an hour believe it or not, so rule of thumb, you need to invest in a completely new suit of Sails; - How many of the Needed US Coastguard demanded Safety items come with the boat, and are in Date ? If USCG Stops you and you invite them onboard to check - really lovely people, and an absolute Delight to play host to, and they even sorted out a 12 month USA Cruising Licence for me to pick up- I thanked them with a large Welsh Flag to put on the wall of their Cafeteria. tbh, they impressed me so much that if young enough to join, I’d sign up.👍; - if it’s a 5 year old boat, servicing, general maintenance and checks should be better than a privately maintained boat, and the Phase out process should be making sure that everything is in tip top condition and working.Never chuck out old Flares, keep them cool and dry, add a set of new to them, and if needed, use the old ones first - I have never had one fail to work, and if it ends up with you having way too many, have a Flares Practice day, combined with a pre servicing Life Jacket session so people can see how everything works, followed by a BBQ. Inform the local Coastguard in advance, along with an invitation to attend and Supervise and Comment as they see fit should they wish to. When buying an ex Charter Sailboat, I May move straight aboard in a Marina for several months, to get a feel for any priority changes, and the order in which to do them. Mast, and a Custom Lead Wing Keel for a 4 foot 6 inches Draft and a new Auto Pilot, plus refurbish the Existing as spare , along with a close inspection of Through Hulls, Standing Rigging and Running Rigging, plus Haulout, bottom Clean and Anodes check then Antifouling, by which time, my Suit of Custom Triradial Sails, plusFurling Gennaker should start arriving, taking advantage of large off Season Discounts. Should be some food for thought there. Best Wishes. Bob in Wales.🤔🌟🌟🌟🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧❤️⛵️

Hi Guys. Something I have noticed over the years about Stainless Steel, and for instance, it really doesn't like Salt Water, such that it causes Mi ro Cracking, so what does Stainless zsteel Like ? Well it seems to like being Polished and it seems to love Vaseline - Which is just Petroleum Jelly, cheaper than Vaseline - So with Standing Rigging, I'm going to try applying Petroleum Jelly with a Micro Fiber Cloth, and really rub it into the 1x19 Wire Strands, from the top down to Deck level, then from about 6ft above the Deck use a heat gun to run the Petroleum Jelly into the wires and into the Deck level fixings, and keep applying it u till it is clear everything is well coated, then once everything is cool, po ish up the wires well with Clean dry micro fiber cloths - then see how they fare in coming years. I'll follow up with how things are panning out, and it may prevent the first signs of trouble, which is brown Staining of the wires ? All the best. Bob in Wales. 🤔🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍❤️
