This cannot be an original Norm joke. Here in South Africa we had a great comic called Tolla Van Der Merwe. He sadly passed away in 2000. He told this joke in the 70's. He just used the Angola Border war and not Vietnam. Also, Tolla spoke Afrikaans and very basic English. Not saying that Norm stole from him, just thinking that some jokes float around for years before popping back up again.
