@@tuckerandi Black grouse and Capercaillie is a popular bird to hunt up north of Sweden as in Finland and Norway. They are also found in Siberia (Taiga forest). In the winter we hunt them by longrange shooting at the top of the trees. You need to know your surroundings when the bullet can reach out several kilometers.

Good job! Have you considered making the roof pitch steeper to avoid a high snow load?
Can you give more information when and how to harvest the birch juice? And what you do with it? Thanks!
@vildmarksliv5 ай бұрын
@@maxmax4250 Hi! I harvest it in May when the snow has melted. At this time the birch fills itself with water. You need to do it before the leaves start to grow. I drink the water from the birch. It contains lots of minerals and are good for your health. Some make syrup of it. Drill a hole about 3-5 cm long. And place a pipe in to the tree then just hang a container underneath. You can freeze it as storage. Don't forget to plug the hole with a twig.

A good thing is that, if the first layer of logs are bad you can use lifting bags. Looks like a pillow you inflate to lift the house. I think you can rent them If needed.

Thanks for the video! What is the purpose of the reinforcement mat? A climbing aid for a plant? Hops?
@vildmarksliv7 ай бұрын
Yep, it's for hops. The hop has been there since the house was built in the later 1800s. In Sweden hop is a traditional plant and has been used since the early 1400s for medicinal purpose and of course making beer.
@maxmax42507 ай бұрын
Nice! How so you want to use it? We have a hop plant in front of the old house too. But no clue when to harvest and how to treat them. Have a good Sunday!

You can harvest the hop in the end of the summer. Dry the cones and use one or two in tea.

Well done! What is the function of the black layer? Protection of the insulation against moisture from the room below?
@vildmarksliv7 ай бұрын
Hi. Its for protection aginst warm air/moist from the room below. It let it pass but makes the moisture to slow down. Its instead of plastic wich they use in modern homes.

What is the swedish name of the product?
@vildmarksliv7 ай бұрын
Its name is Vindpapp AC 350. Usually you use it behind the panel on the house.
@maxmax42508 ай бұрын
Cool stuff! Why did they put it in the ceiling? For insulation? But metal and glas? Or as some sort of time capsule?
@vildmarksliv8 ай бұрын
The often used newspaper in the bottom to stop lekage of sawdust. Sawdust is usually used in old timber homes in sweden for insulation. In this house they also used bigger leaves as insulation. The used the attic for storage and some stuff sank in the sawdust and got hidden with time. I even got better news stories from America. Stories from the wildwest. Hope you liked the video. Maybe i should post moore of the stuff i find.

Thank you for the video! I have many questions. I hope I'm not annoying with them! Where is it ok to hunt beavers? On your own property and/or as a member of a hunting cooperative? Are you only allowed to shoot them on land, or in the water as well? What do you do with the meat? What do you do with the fur? Thanks and greetings! 😊
@vildmarksliv Жыл бұрын
Hi! Its ok on your own property and If you are a member of a hunting party usually by owning land you have the right to join a hunting party in your area. Another way is to talk to landowners and ask them. You can also ask hunting partys If they sell one year license or day cards for smallgame. When you hunt in sweden you need an approved hunting degree, huntinglicense for the weapon, hunting permit for the area. You also need to pay a hunting permit fee to Naturvårdsverket and hav an insurance. You can shoot them in the water but Nothing ill never would recommend. Very small area to shoot at (The head). The legs i smoke. The glands you can put in spirits. The fur is fantastic i have em on couches. In the picture for the video wood stove cockies you can see it lying on the sofa.

@@vildmarksliv I have heard that the meat is not bad. Here in Germany, beavers are not allowed to be hunted. But in the past they were eaten with pleasure in the monasteries. Especially during fasting season, beavers were eaten, because meat was otherwise forbidden. Beavers were simply declared as fish. Then it was OK! 😊

I'm curious about the rope or straps can you not use bailing wire to hold the frame up? I've seen it done in another video can't remember whose but they also use straps. I use bailing wire standard 16 gauge wire to hold bait box/cubby. Do you use any long distance call lures?
@vildmarksliv2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Really good questions. Im only using straps instead of nails becuse of the sawmills here in Sweden. Im going to do a test in the future with flexible straps with hooks in the ends of the rope for quick attachment of the box to the trees. Only time i use long distance call lures is at foxhunting and hunting hazelgrouse. Sometimes i call on blackgrouse but i dont need a call lure for that bird. I also call on moose without a calling lure. Best regards to you!
