I had a former friend marry on Mount Pleasant about a decade ago. An ex of mine moved back a year and a half ago to be closer to family. The city is riding the wave expansion as our capital city and its connected suburban cities push ever farther outward.

It's a surprise to know that there's more to Lancaster than meets the eye.

The whole region around Lancaster holds such a unique history-both geologically and antropologically. Sadly, much of the Native American earthworks and mounds have been tilled over for agriculture. But signs do still exist if you know where to look. Evidence of the early settlers to the Northwest Territories are also readily found in the area, too, and it's not as hard to find! Thanks for commenting!

I grew up in Dublin and lived there from age 4 to 18, that is, 1961 to 1975. All 12 years of school were in the Dublin school district. It has changed so much! Thanks for making this video.

Thanks for sharing! Dublin has certainly grown. The way they kept the old town center, yet connected it to the new, modern Bridge Park, really created something quite special.

Seniors beware. Not worth the expensive entrance fee. Minimal reduction for seniors. Only good for one day. I went 2 days because of the crowds on the first day. The second day was just as bad. Hundreds of yelling children. They bother the butterfly and ruin shots of the butterflies. If you have any mobility problems don’t go. The butterflies are beautiful but the experience is not worth the hassle.

You happened to visit the conservatory during the week that most of the County school districts were off for spring break. I can completely understand why you felt it was packed with kids. The conservatory offers programming for families that week, which brings in thousands of visitors. I'd suggest visiting on a weekday, after 2pm. Most school groups have headed out by that time, and Mon-Thurs tend to be the least busy days. Senior tickets are $4 less expensive than an adult ticket. Plus, if you have AAA, a membership to another local cultural institution, or are active or retired military, you can get an additional 1-3 dollars off your admission. Parking is also always free there, too. The Conservatory campus, by and large, is wheelchair accessible. They even offer free rentals of scooters and wheelchairs on a first-come-first-served basis. There are also many benches and seats around the campus if you need a rest. I sincerely hope you attribute your experience to an unfortunately timed visit and give them another chance -but maybe not during spring break. Thanks for commenting!!

Most of Ohio's steep cliffs, tall waterfalls, and sandstone ravines and caves are in the Hocking Hills region. It's one of the best places to "step out of the ordinary" here in Ohio. I hope you get to visit sometime, if you haven't already! Thanks for the comment!

What is the story behind the small area near down town Lancaster that is named "Whites"?
@marcusshull
@marcusshull 11 ай бұрын
I honestly do not know the answer to your question. If I had to guess, I'd say it was likely a small village that ultimately was absorbed into Lancaster. But that's speculation on my part. I'll add this to my list of things to research, and if I come up with the answer, I'll share my findings here. Thanks for the great question!

What is the origin of the Adena name?
@marcusshull
@marcusshull Жыл бұрын
If memory serves, The name Adena has been applied to Native Americans who inhabited the area, primarily because Adena is what Thomas Worthington named his estate. I believe they found earthworks on the estate and subsequently, they named the people after the estate. But Adena is from the Old Testament. (I think) it's the name of a soldier.

Ohio's northeastern region rices from the shores of Lake Erie and blooms with ethnic neighborhoods , the Rock and Roll and Pro Football Halls of Fame and Cuyahoga Valley National Park.It stretches beyond subturban areas into rolling hills where highways dissolve into country roads, Basically, people live and create the way they want to here, and it makes for an amazingly diverse, authentic set of experiences.It has the highest concentration of Hungarian Americans in the United States. Thank you for an interesting video from Chicago, Illinois. I salute the whole region.

My favorite part of the tour was when we visited the Atrium and our guide explained the story behind the pigeon statue, over the Senate Building door. I'm looking forward to returning when it's warmer and enjoying Capitol Square a bit more. Also, thank you for the compliment! The quality of the footage you can record on an iPhone, today is incredible. It makes this kind of hobby a lot easier.

I'll have to focus more when next I watch this. My friends Clyde and Dawn Kennedy had a home behind a shop, actually two shops and a theater above. I lived spending time with both of them when I lived in Columbus.

The old theater is definitely visible in this video. My grandfather owned the Union76 garage in town. Clyde would often be at the garage talking with the other regulars. Clyde also built a beautiful cottage in West Rushville, with a few small outbuildings. It's still one of the prettiest properties in the area. His daughter owns it now, and she had been using it at an AirBnB. You can see it in the Simply Flying: A brief history of West Rushville video.

@@marcusshull Dawn told me once that I was the only one allowed to be around when he was making his cabin. The tinnitus that he had was severe, and got worse if he was around nosy people who kept him from work. I have often wondered who had the cabin now. HIS DAUGHTER Anita, or Eric's wife. Or just who.

I mean you can find some zombies in some areas lol. Mansfield, Elyria, Lorain, etc. A lot of Ohio is naturally beautiful though. It's the man made stuff that usually makes Ohio look worse. Like abandoned run down businesses all over Lorain County (north east Ohio) and newly formed homeless shanty towns due to poverty. We do have some hope though as there is a very large push to bring Intel fabrication to Columbus which should if done right boost jobs and economy in the entire state. We will see. P.S. we have some super diverse wild life here if you're into that. I get opossums, deer, cardinals, herons, humming birds, bats, frogs, toads, salamanders, turtles, an occasional nosy fox, coyote (dangerous keep away and discourage this visitor) even some lizards specifically three lined skinks around my property. Deer are a problem though. Personally I like them but not when they jump in front of my 23 year old Lincoln. It's very hard to find parts for that car and I love it lol.
