"n amount of time" is the TRUTH - scoping the time required to update is usually the hardest part and when I figure it out it is usually when I am already in the process of updating.

100% - we've seen many companies come through our virtual doors here because they have started their migration journey and realized halfway through they won't make it in time for the EOL coming up. You are not alone.
