Ravel arranged the piano solo for orchestra and includes only these 4 movements, so many arrangements follow that tradition.

They are Vic Firth M154, rubber mallets made for marimba. Malletech makes similar mallets. Encore make slightly different sounding mallets made of latex, those are also nice. There’s another recording of Nagoya on KZbin where they use Resta-Jay rubber mallets. I’ve never used them but I like the sound in their video so I may try to find some if I can.
