The key to a great solo is phrasing, and boy do they all nail it! Especially the flutist, imo.

I’ve only known about this song for a few weeks and it feels like it’s been in my life forever because it feels like so much of my past and my late mothers experience dealing with my bipolar. Miss you mama, R.I.P. I’m becoming obsessed with these guys and wonder if they still play live cause I need to this song in person.

Sadly Maggie passed a few year ago. I think Suzzy tours with her daughter sometimes...I first heard them on Dave Herman's morning show on WNEW-FM in NY in the 70's and been a fan since. Live they have been fantastic.

Such a beautiful song. I had never heard this until just before Christmas 23'. Radio 6 here in the UK played it and I was literally scrambling for pen and paper to grab the artist etc. It's since being added to a couple of playlists. Fantastic. Thank you for posting this 😊

It's a great song but i still think Terry Hall took it and turned it into something more beautiful.

So glad we have this now. I saw an older version too on YT. The lines haunted me from some feint memory when I was a young girl. So glad it surfaced!

I fell in love with a girl from Hammond, Louisiana in 1981. Never got over her. This song came out before we met, irony, I guess. Love the Roches.

I first saw them do this at Rockefeller’s in Houston. Dim blue light, and Terre lying on her side on the stage as it started. It was such a powerful image that I tried to sketch it (I can’t draw freehand). “Where is ‘on down the line’? How far away?”

I just meet Lee Morgan from the Netflix documentary. So sad 😞 for all involve. Also sad for his wife, it was really drugs that took him. Yes she pulled the trigger, but he would have been dead long before. He was a great talent 👏 indeed. I know & understand what the horse can do to people. Someone I love is there in that world. Praying 🙏
