I'm a brand new owner and looking for tons of help, I've bought this yesterday and have had about 30min worth of handtime with it, using the supplied abree and was able to get noaa and fm freq, but everything else is completely alien to me. I'm glad I found you, keep up the great vids and I'll be subbing, It's very intriguing and would love to know more. Appreciate you brother. @Portie22168 күн бұрын
From Mick: @Sdr-f7n , I like this model and works well. There are only two things to think about. 1) Size, if you need something small to carry with other equipment in a pack-out, it should be tested, 2). The red font on the menu is hard to read in day light, I need to see if that can be changed. These radios are so cheap, get both, then you have a spare if one breaks. Thanks for watching and the comments. I’ll have a hand held GMRS review coming out shortly, I’m testing it now and like what I see so far.

What are the differences between this and the UV-5RH pro and the UV-5RH pro max?
@Portie22168 күн бұрын
From Mick: @VRWarLab, I do not currently see these models listed on the Baofeng website. The typical difference between models is the display, frequency range, NOAA, and power. These could older models as Baofeng is always making small changes. Thanks for watching and the comments
@VRWarLab7 күн бұрын
@@Portie2216 that's the issue I have, I haven't found any official source. However I've heard that some company made a ham radio with X feature (something to do with the screen I believe) and so Baofeng decided to make the UV-5RH pro max which implements that feature. (Something to do with GPS? No clue. UV-5RH pro (not the max one) has GPS I believe so I don't know what the difference may be)
@Portie22167 күн бұрын
From Mick: @VRWarLab , a lot of these radios do the same things, with minor variations. I would write down the main things you want in a radio then look at the official Baofeng, Tidradio, or Wouxon sites for the best match. I need to look into GPS in these cheap handhelds. I know the big boys have GPS for things like D-Star…. I’m gonna research what GPS is currently used for. Check out our latest review of the Baofeng AR-5rm. I liked the radio. @AryaKiaie - glad it helped! Hi Portie, looks great! I am thinking about making the jump to the PPCM+ in my 996 but, wireless CarPlay was a deal breaker. Quick question, though, if you had that black box, that I’ve seen in a lot of other installs, can’t you just plug the wireless CarPlay adapter and the MagSafe adapter into the two inputs? Looks like there is one for the phone/carplay input and one that is a regular USB. If that is correct, then why do we need the tap off the cigarette lighter? Also, is that black box an item that comes with the PCCM+ or is that a separate component? If so, do you have a link?
@Portie221614 күн бұрын
@LouUSMC - Thanks for watching and I'd say you won't regret the PCCM+ with added wireless! I too thought maybe you could plug the magsafe charger into the supplied "black box" or "media box" - when I did, it didn't have enough power for the magsafe charger, thus the cigarette lighter tap in for 12v power. I'm sure there are other power sources you can pull from but this was in the vicinity and worked pretty well. I'd also suggest buying the A1 midshelf from Autobahn Engineering - game changer right there! Autobahn Engineering A1 Mid Shelf = autobahn.engineering Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

Can you go through the gears while the wheels aren't turning (on ramps)
@Portie221629 күн бұрын
@DamienH-y9g - yes you can, make sure you keep your foot firmly planted on the brake so you don't rock off the jack stands. Going through the gears allows the transmission to heat up and get the oil all around the gears and throughout the trans.
@DamienH-y9g29 күн бұрын
@Portie2216 I've been trying this but the display doesn't change from 1 (first gear) maybe the wheels have to be spinning?
@Portie221628 күн бұрын
@@DamienH-y9g If I'm remembering correctly you'll only be able to hit 1st, reverse and neutral - that should do the trick! You won't be able to get higher than first unless the wheels are spinning but that is not needed. Just 1st, reverse and neutral - go back and forth every so often until you hit temp. I think I let it sit in each gear for 10 seconds or so - no magic time frame that I recall. Good luck!
