Saw him and the brothers in Detroit and at MSU back in the day. His gift of holding his audience spellbound as he wove his oratory magic between major and minor chord progressions, while African drums and shekere, pulsate the staccatoed rhythms, was indeed mesmerizing. Rest in peace man. The demons you fought didn't win. Your legacy still lives on.

His songs are brilliantly a true reflection of society truths. The rich control the man's lives in deceitful ways.

Never heard this one. Gils was way ahead of his time in thinking. He went through it all, drugs, poverty, and racism but keep his vision and stayed true to himself.

It's interesting to note Brian Jackson wrote most of the Words that Gil Scott Heron spoke to the world through his unique voice and style....
@niallmackinnon8982 Жыл бұрын
sorry D.M. but I'm sure this isn't true. From an interview with Brian: Is that how you worked together from then on, with you giving him music to put words to? Pretty much. He would always ask me to tell him what I was feeling or thinking in respect to the piece I was presenting to him. Sometimes I’d have a bit of a lyric or a hook. At the very least, I would have to have an idea of what I was trying to say with the music. Whenever we wrote together, that had to be a part of it. Once I did that, he could just run with it. He was always dead on. He always understood exactly where I was coming from. It was a great feeling to write with somebody like that. It was like a Vulcan mind-meld almost. I'm off to see Brian Jackson tonight in Melbourne. V. excited

During their period of collaboration Brian wrote the music and Gil wrote the words.
