Well done on this, have seen vids with some crazy ideas about how the kidney pouches fit i.e the special forces way, absolute bollocks as sas generally bin kidney pouches and use 44 pattern ammo pouches instead. You could also show how we cut a piece of sleeping mat off and covered it with a scrim net then gaffer taped it onto the belt for comfort

The open ring/sheath on the side of one of the ammo pouches is perfect for an AK-47 bayonet to slip into. I've had the belt and ammo pouches for about 25 years. Got em In a surplus shop for a tenner. Very heavy when wet! But tough as nails

Very well done, now go do a CFT,in the pouring rain,in issue BCH.Carry it for 10 hours a day, preferably in aforementioned rain, you can't wear waterproofs, not warry enough, your sleeping bag is 30 years old, with not enough feathers in it to cover one Robin.Soaks water like a sponge, shrinks when wet,and very uncomfortable to even sit on.I think you will find that 99.3% of people who wore it will agree, the .7% will be Sargeant Majors and DS.

Your missing two utility straps that connect across the back between the two ammo pouches. Other than that your not far wrong with the connecting of the kidney pouches. As added security we were taught to tie a not in string from inside the water and ammo pouches, thread through the draining whole, then tie off on the belt. The poncho roll was used for your NBC bolts and suit. I personally dumped the kidney pouches in favour of two extra (3 in total) waterbottle pouches and one 44pattern waterbottle holder I also changed my left ammo pouch for a two pouch setup for four 5.56 30rds magazines when the SA80 was introduced.

My webbing doesn't have the D-rings on the belt anymore. Original owner must have gotten rid of them for some reason.

The first piece of military webbing I've ever owned. I always thought it was a bit overwrought and ended up sticking it in a chest for nostalgia's sake, but it had some interesting ideas. For example, I've long preferred the twin kidney pouches concept to a single butt-pack. Not only do they have a slimmer form factor that works much better in a vehicle, say, but they also tend not to wiggle about so much, having a wider attachment base. I'm also right fond of the old-style poncho roll, but only when marching out to the wilderness. Definitely not while riding..

That is not how you attach kidney pouches. The strap that goes through the 3 eyelets on the pouch has an eyelet on the end of it. Feed the strap through the first eyelet and THEN through the eyelet on the end of the strap. Then proceed as per your video. This makes it virtually impossible for the pouches to fall off. The top strap, that feeds through the two upper eyelets, should then be returned over the top of the second eyelet and tucked into the first, again, to stop the pouch falling off.

No, Harry's demonstrating the CORRECT method AS DESIGNED. You've described a soldier's "switched on" way of attaching them. :-) I never needed to attach the lower tab your way, it made more of a lump against the body. We used to fold over the end, hammer it down then tape it against itself around that furthest "staple" (rectangular ring). Then I replaced the kidney pouches with better 44 Patt Amm Pouches (x3), anyway.

I use my 58 pouches on a yank belt with the Alice yoke as it is more adjustable than the 58 yoke and i use 2 yank 2 quirt water bottles on my set of webbing . If you can find some of the South African kidney pouches they are bigger than the 58 pouch

The yoke attachment points are set a little too wide on the rear of the belt. They should hang straight and attach to just inside the lower 'D rings'.
