One of the most amazing videos I've ever seen. Watching this in Kent, UK but know the Huon area very well having lived in Petchey's Bay for a few years. In 1978, my brother and I rented a flat in Churchill Ave, Sandy Bay and we had Phil, an Iraqi refugee living with us. He had deserted the Iraqi army because he disagreed with the Iran-Iraq war and ended up in Hobart. His story is not that different to Arad's but we took him in and made him welcome. Given the current right wing riots here in the UK over immigration, I can honestly say that Arad's destiny couldn't have brought him to a better place. I hope his family will join him soonest. I have no doubt that Australia will be that bit better for having him there. He bloody deserves it.

I will share it with my class and teacher at cire training. Thankyou so much. I will also share it with jo the tassie rep for Community Gardens Australia. He should tell his story at the event on august the 3rd and 4th at tas uni in Launceston. Just brilliant again thankyou. Jill

Hi Stan here .I used to work for T A Franckomb in the 70s.It was a great place to work .I left there for a while in 74 and went to do some travelling on the mainland .I went back to Clifton in 75 and actually went to the Main House (behind the oust house.) Back then they had a house maid and she said to me she knew I was coming back because the pigeon had returned apparently it left the day I did and hadn't been see there until the day I returned . That story has stuck with me to this day .

Thanks for your informative video. My wife and I are planning for our early retirement and we have been living in Sydney for almost 30 years. I am starting to getting sick of Sydney’s road traffic and very humid, hot and sticky weather, high cost of living, etc. I like cold weather especially Tasmania’s green landscape, crystal clear water and the slow & easy, relaxing life style. I'm keen to know: how easy is it to get access to shops, restaurants, cafes and hospitals? Where is the best for retired to live and how about Tassie peoples? Are they friendly ?

Random question I know but do either of you know a kitty, Kathryn or Cathleen Cotter? I am trying to build my family tree and because she is a bit of a free spirit, im finding it difficult to find her. My father is Michael and she is my aunt. My dad is very forgetful and knows she was living in Tasmania but has trouble recalling what her married name is. But my step mother believes she was living either in or near the Huon valley the last time they heard from her. If you or anyone knows her, I would just love to get to know her and hear about all her adventures. I know she had a cookbook published at some stage but I don't know what it is called
