Do you mean the feed point was 6 feet off the ground on a vertical antenna? Was it a sloping antenna? Was all of the antenna 6 feet off the ground? Tell all of the story to provide the viewer knowledge. When I saw the title, I assumed I would learn a little about EFHW antennas. Nice that you were able to reach to Japan.

Sorry, I have another video that goes into detail about my EFHW. The entire thing is 6 feet off the ground. From the feed point to the end of the wire. It wraps around my fence in the shape of a square due to my yard being only about 25 feet by 20 feet.

It is an Amateur Radio activity called, "Parks on the Air", or POTA. There are parks all over the world that are designated parks to setup your radio gear in and talk to other Amateur Radio operators. Most of the people we talk to are at home, but sometimes, you also talk to other people in other parks. You need to make contact with 10 people for the event to be considered a successful activation. There are awards for different tasks within this activity. Google Parks on the Air if you'd like to learn more or Google, getting you Amateur Radio License, to see if you may be interested. Thanks for watching and the comment.

I've tuned mine to that with an external, MFJ-939. Very inefficient, but it worked. The internal tuner on the 710 won't tune to that, however. I think in this video, I had my 7000 hooked up to it but using a Yaesu FT-710 now.

I am new to HF and have the Yaesu 710 and I am trying to figure out when you need the external tuner vs. the internal tuner?
@W6OBB
@W6OBB 4 ай бұрын
The internal tuner tunes an antenna up to 3:1. If the SWR is higher, you need an external tuner. This MFJ tuner does Matches 6-1600 Ohms (SWR up to 32:1). However, I'd recommend getting an antenna that is a close to resonance as possible. I actually have needed the external tuner with my EFHW antenna. I use this tuner when portable now for POTA or SOTA with my FT-891 as it doesn't have an internal tuner. It works great for my 891 when I want to use my 40-10 EFHW on 17 meters. What's your call sign, BTW. 73 de W6OBB

Thanks for this. I have the subject radio and tuner. My biggest complaint with the 710 is the tuner doesn't work a very wide range and requires constant retuning. The MFJ is very fast, if you don' t consider switching the radio to AM. however a much wider range and good memory retention. Also, it tunes my end fed 40 meter antenna on 80 meters, and WARC bands. Yeah maybe not all that efficient, but i also have antenna restrictions.
