As a percentage of all American nations and ethnicities, the Kiowa have the highest number of veterans . The warrior culture lives on.

Very profound music that I think even people outside of the culture of Kiowas can emotionally relate to. That is why it is important to preserve music and cultures of smaller groups as it helps us all know ourselves more.

I think as we move away from fighting for the occupiers as our humbled grandparents did, we should begin to remember our kiowa medicine men. Men who fight every day who remain nameless for their duties as we appreciate this moment of relative peace, and we work toward separating ourselves from the colonizers, men who take care of our people in the interim of battle while we contine our fight for survival which we know as a small number of people is every single day.

My wife, white, German, was a Kiowa war mother. Our son, Jesse, went to war in Ramadi with the 2/5 Marines, and fought not too far from our cousin, Dave Taptto of the 3/1, who was severely wounded in Fallujah, so badly wounded that it stopped his Marine career. We are descended from the Aunkos and Aitsons.
