Yes the trade off is cheap land, but more property upkeep and infrastructure maintenance because of the temperature and rain. Farming is a massive challenge here, but doable depending on crop selection… And expensive! Either way you will pay, if you grow or buy. Getting machines to come out and move rock costs a lot which is required here for any serious fruit production.

I plant this in pots during the summer season for the hummingbirds. But the woodchucks keep devouring them right down to the dirt! Frustrating. And then if they are allowed to grow and bloom, the squirrels eat the entire flower part. So I've sort of given up.

Thank you for the valuable information and walk thru of these districts in Puna. I went on Google Earth and checked out the property I asked you about in a previous video. Your information helps out immensely, the more we think about it the more we realize that a move would be a positive thing for us as we are mostly private people and how much I hate looking across the street .and seeing another house there when I would very much prefer not to see any homes just forested property that belongs to me and that I can feel the freedom to just be without so many expectations and city rules and regulations. Currently we are in a standstill (footing) with the city permit people and to sell our home we would need to come up with abt $8-to-10k to finish our unpermited room addition right now it safely sits on cement pillars, some wicked neighbor we had called the city on us and it was nothing but problems for at least a year or two until we finally told them we could not afford to take it down or put in the footing! They marked us in as whatever it is they call it and told us we could stay here but if we wanted to sell our property we would need to finish the permitting process, go figure we were very much relieved and sort of still have this problem hanging over our heads as I speak to you. We purchased this property from my father at normal cost at the time no favors due to family like Hawaiian families do over there just hard core whatever you want to call it but it was interest free for 5 years and then we took a loan out and paid the note holder my father must have thought we would mess up and not pay him or something no faith in our capabilities?!!! Damn shame cause we did keep our end of the deal and I was forced to know just how much more we paid than the noteholder. to the tune of $86k for a long time I couldn't face my father knowing that he could actually f--ck me this way. no Ohana here in Ca. mainland ways don't resonate with me at all especially since I lived with a local family for so many years and know how local people think and do things sometimes I wish I never moved back here but at the same time I find it interesting and that it does have its good qualities yet the Big Island still calls me back. Anyway thank you for your video much appreciated for sure! much Aloha to you and your family!

Hi, I have a question to ask you, I hope you can answer my questions. I used to live in Hilo and had planned on building a homestead way back when in the late 80's and early 90's in Leilani Estates but now I realize that this is a dangerous area and because of the recent Kiluea Volcanic action in 2018 I have changed my mind, Today I am considering the Puna area and 14-5079 Noni Farm Rd, Pahoa, HI 96778 <= area. I miss living there and have a hapa haole daughter who used to come here and stay with her father and grandparents (her father moved here from Oahu to live with his parents and I am sure he surfed there and there is a possibility that you might have known him his name is Dante, he recently died while surfing during that big wave storm when the waves were maybe over 25 ft there is a news broadcast showing the waves going over aa two story building I believe he had a heart attack due to the Vaccine *death shot he got during a stay in Halawa prison where I am sure they forced the vax on the inmates. and with the recent fire in Lahiana Maui and who actuaally did it the DS and Elites = f-ck those people for all the damage they are doing to our country and the people. Dante had a celebration of life ceremony given by the HUI Surfing community there I watched it as my daughter had video taped it while attending it a bout maybe a year and a half ago or there abouts. He used to surf with a haole friend named Joe Thompson from Puna who I havent seen or spoken to in so long already. Anyway being from Hawaii obviously I miss the place and want to return back to my roots (I miss the chickens and billy goats and the fruits and veggies that grow and for the life of me I cant find a Marunga tree here which I love eating as I used to live with a local family and ate all the unique foods there along with sticky rice daily lol) Anyway, you said you make surfboards so I just figured you might know Dante or Joe. I live in San Diego Ca. and moved back during my break up although we remained friends always I just wanted to be with my parents here because they were getting older they are in their late 80's and I wanted to begin the process of moving back as I never really assimilated here for some reason, Anyway if you could do me a favor and check into that address I just gave you I wouuld appreciate it as I dont want to make a bad decision and purchase land that wouldnt be a relatively safe bet ( I understand that there will always be a certain amount of danger if one is going to live in the east side of the island, because of Kiluea I remember watching her erupt many times although the 2018 eruption was certainly very much worse than I had ever seen it previously ( I was sort of thinking/wondering if that thermo dynamics(?) Rothchild owned corporation(?) (hidden behind the veil of yet another corporation name anyway its in Hilo and I just sort of wondered if maybe this plant had something to do with this as Trump was in power then and they hated him along withthe fact that they might have been trying to create an avalanche from the volcanos erupting ( the Helena Slump) that could have had devistating damage if it had fallen just as the Palma volcano erupted emensely recently also I think the elites wanted that volcano to do the same thing as it very well could have considering its physical make up and the destruction would have taken NYC and who knows but certainly a tidal wave that would have hit NYC and the east coast! Anyway, I hope you get back with me sooner rather than later and I appreciate your channel keep up the great work my Kamaina friend Mahalo Nui Loa! ( just sending no proof reading already rewrote this because I lost my first one

I don’t quite understand what you’re talking about. This was a video about bamboo roofs. Not an address about water. Besides, haven’t you ever read Steinbeck, “in the dry years they forget about the wet years, and in the wet years they forget about the dry years.” That’s the relationship people in CA have with their water. Enjoy the wet years.

Couldn't disagree more. I plant this in mid-spring every year from seed and in zone 7-7A where I am it's a very fast growing, prolifically flowering, bee, hummingbird and most importantly, monarch butterfly favorite, and it's healthy - no muss, no fuss, no watering and it flowers for months. It doesn't pop up everywhere and can't survive winters here so it's basically an annual. Highly recommend if you want a lovely, huge abundantly flowering, wildlife attractor.

Im sorry but science has yet to figure oout how to filter out forever chemicals and chemtrail nanoparticulates. No household filter can achieve this, regardless the claims and performance statistics provided. Do NOT BELEIVE there lies. Asfar as Sanitizing water its simple useing chlorine dioxide tablets. If you want pure clean minerlzed water you will have to buy Japanese deep sea disalinated water for $800. Per 5 gall. This stuff is real water and life revitalizing.

Hey - public health inspector here with 21 yrs experience with private and public systems. Your video hit the nail on the head - there are many places in the world where rainwater collection is the only way that safe drinkeable water is available; such as parts of Juneau, Alaska - where the hard rock doesn't allow for wells, and the proximity to the Ocean means you can't use that for drinking. A few comments: For a good UV system, you can get UV lights that you can take out and clean / scrape off calcium deposits. Some have sensors that either trigger an alarm or run a bypass valve if the bulb doesn't produce enough light. For those worried about high tech: many of these bulbs are like your typical fluorescent tubes you'd see in schools back in the 60's - only they don't have a UV coating on them. If you are worried about it failing during a catasyrophe - just buy a few spares beforehand. The biggest problem with UV systems tends to be either systems that don't have good pre-filtration to get rid of sediments. If you have a 3-filter system, one that filters 20 microns, the 5 microns, then 1 micron (absolute), you have a system that will allow barely any 'junk' from gumming up the UV light. The other advantage of using rainwater, is that it being free of sediments means you don't have to worry about hard water - iron deposits, calcium, sulphur, etc... gumming up your fixtures or hot water tanks. The "only" thing to be careful, is that if you collect treated rainwater for drinking, *know* that the water can be corrosive, and it WILL eat away at your fixtures or your copper piping. If your plumbing is before 1980's, you probably have lead solder joints, so lead can leech into the water. Also, some fixtures and faucets (manufactured overseas) may contain high levels of lead in them. If this is the case, letting the water run for about 5 mins helps to keep this down. You only *really* get concerns about pathogenic bacteria if you get a lot of birds that crap on your roof - which a good UV system will take care of.
@HomesteadinHawaii12 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tips, we add baking soda into the water to nuetralize it's corrosive effects
