While you may be tempted to polish your coins to make them look shiny and new, proceed with caution. Polishing and/or cleaning coins can reduce their value. Older coins that show deep age coloration are more desirable than coins whose surfaces have been stripped away by improper polishing or cleaning. If you do polish a coin to remove dirt, use mild soap and water. Once you’ve washed the coin, pat it dry with a soft towel. Brushing or rubbing can scratch a coin’s delicate surface. but dont do it
@fingaro9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the advice! I'm trying to stay away from the polishing, just attempting to clean the mineralization, crystallization, corrosion, and dirt. Basically, my idea is to reveal the layer of patina, if there is some left. Thanks again! 😀

@@fingaro Okay, you just wiped out the patina thats been collecting on a coin that may have been used in the Roman times. the history, you just wiped away, and why because you thought the coin was dirty or perhaps cool? There are plenty of modern day coins in worse shape but you decided it was acceptable to destroy a piece of history, so here is my valuable thought, Your a selfish entitled moron with zero respect or care for anyone. If that was a a Denarius Jesus could have held it for all you know. Nice way to start out, destroying ancient artifacts. Next time, if your making such a decision to put on display to the WORLD, expect pushback when you do dumb shit like this. Unbelievable. You're a talented guy but man think things out!

As far as my knowledge and tools allow me, I'm doing my best to clean and preserve the coins with all of the patina. Please, could you show me at which moment of the video I'm destroying the coin? In the last seconds, I'm showing this piece of art in daylight in my hand. It's all dark green, except for uncleaned zones, which are kinda white. The coin was given to me for cleaning by an old collector, and he was pleased with the results. And again, I've got a lot to learn and a lot of mistakes to make.

I'm not the correct example 😉 I'm using "DIY" tools. In this case, a standard automatic pencil, like this one: a.co/d/cfK5y1i. The pencils are in two sizes with removed graphite and replaced with something useful. In 0.5mm size, I'm using needles and sewing pins as inserts. In 2.0mm size, I'm using toothpicks and homemade various non-ferrous inserts, like brass or aluminum ones. The other tools are: Ball vice; Toothbrush with shortened hair; Dental probe; Again, I'm not the right example! Just like you, I'm new to this, and I don't think anything I say could be used as advice!

At this point, it looks like there's almost no difference, and the olive oil is slightly better. Maybe it is just a placebo because I'm expecting oil to work better. I'm using a standard mechanical pencil in 2mm size, but instead of graphite inside, I'm using wood, brass, and aluminum inserts. I'm also using standard dental probe, toothbrush with shortened hair, and a brass handle with attached sewing pin. Today, I bought more mechanical pencils in size of 0.4mm and 0.5mm, so the needles will go there. And, of course, various brushes 😀

@@fingaro Thank you! where I can find the inserts? you do them by your own?
@fingaro10 ай бұрын
@Alrik1987 Yes, the inserts are hand-made. Depends on the manufacturer, but there are toothpicks with a diameter of 1.96mm, which will fit perfectly in a 2mm pencil. Metal inserts could easily be made from different wires and a little sandpaper. For removing hard deposits, I'm using needles. Most small ones are in 0.4-0.5mm size, so they are also "easy fitter." There are complete products online like this www.cleaningpencil.com/composite-cleaning-pencil I prefer to make my tools as much as I can. I hope the information is useful. 👍

@fingaro10 ай бұрын
I have one, but I never used it for ancient coins. It would be nice if it could be applicable. It's too risky. Even a small crack in the patina will be the end of the coin. Keeping the value of the coin needs time. No sonic bath, no chemicals. Layer by layer, mechanical cleaning by hand.
