Yes, this is Windows 10. Depending on the version, you need DosBOX and install it. But... you need to check some guides how to set it up. You can setup a DosBOX individually for every single game. Despite this, except from MiG Alley, Jane's IAF/USAF (only XP and Win 10) I got EVERY military-like game/sim running on WinXP/Win7/Win8/Win10. If someone says: game X doesn't run, don't believe them.

Your videos where you rediscover the mood of certain 90s combat simulators are a pleasure to behold, mostly because you record exactly what clicked on these. I was never too good on simulators - or any game that required patience from me, to be fair, apart from adventures - but this feeling of flying low, feeling alone, feeling watched, and feeling that the rest of the world is alive is what made these campaigns so memorable (apart from that Tornado STILL has one of the better dynamic campaigns out there). It's not only a matter of mixing the physics with game design, but sound design and graphic design.
@Tertius_Oculus5 жыл бұрын
Risingson Carlos Thank you for kind words. I had some long break from Tornado, but plan to begin flying it in the coming weeks... I fell very hooked to it. Believe me, it gets never old. Modern sims are suffering emptiness and demand lots of hardware. What makes Tornado superior is that it doesn’t need the best physics... you are on Autopilot, most times your are close to the ground and except of Visual references you don’t need graphics, you have your cockpit. Though it’s nice to see city lights, trains rolling around. Tornado reminded me a bit of the first Rainbow Six games... you get to plan lots of synchronized attacks yourself, precisely to overrun and overwhelm the air defenses from many sides. Check the airfield strike which I recorded and read the comments with time stamps. You won’t believe what happened in that flight around me... an ALARM fired off from a wingman towards its designated waypoint to hover in the air and react as soon as a air defence Radar gets active. I thought that im done til I saw a faint line dropping on this SAM making way for me & my JP run on a runway. I never experienced something similar in modern sims. Get it, fly it. It’s unbelievable.

@Tertius_Oculus5 жыл бұрын
Trim your thought-process on the following: - Know your Mission (Waypoints, Heading, Expected Threat Vector (where the enemy will come from), hostile area - Keep in mind any allied flights - Use your IFF interrogation to identify contacts (Hostile/Friendly) on your radar - Listen to the AWACs calls. If hostiles are near, point your nose straight at them. - Watch your RWR for hostile radar emissions like SAMs. Keep them on distance during a combat air patrol (CAP) => enemy territory - Maintain your situational awareness. You are moving in a 3D environment, don't get yourself lost especially during dogfights. - Use your wingman on a target while you focuss on the second target. - Absolutely necessary: Watch => kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqvHqn2ahLqMiLM (F-16 pilot Pete Bonnani made a Falcon 3.0 Course called "Art of the kill" talking about ACM and using the ACMI records during flights to analyze your flights. Falcon 3.0 demands a lot from you, as does Mircoprose Fleet Defender and Digital Integration Tornado. Currently, Falcon 4.0 with BMS 4.33 and DCS full fidelity modules are the highest you can get in Combat Simulators.
@RetroAmateur19895 жыл бұрын
@@Tertius_Oculus Thanks for your input, but my issue is not with the piloting and combat operations, but rather with how clunky the graphics and the game in general is. It's the obsolete mature that Im trying to overcome. I know BMS and DCS, and I can manage there.

Retro Amateur To keep you motivated: Missions aren’t just missions. Such missions, with the past Cold War flair without fancy AIM-9X, F-35.. but with the A version of the F-16 etc., missions from past technological times with the old Soviet foe like in Fleet Defender too will never be reproduced. You will get this experience nowhere. The same goes for titles like Harpoon. The biggest obstacle being the graphics... “Cold war gone hot“ stuff is getting rare. :) Try to adapt your eyes to these graphics. It will take some time. Tornado was easy to adapt to.... while Falcon 3.0 & Fleet Defender were absolutely not (Padlock games).

I will try to fly/record them all someday... but I feel that Tornado starts calling me for more sessions. Do you fly these oldies too? Remember, the cold war times, 80s/90s are still conserved. The missions, the foes... no F-22, terrorists etc. You will get this world nowhere to experience. This goes for titles like Harpoon as well with its carefully and realistically crafted battlesets which CMANO doesn’t provide. These are all gems.

"The defense department regrets to inform you, your sons are dead because they were stupid" You never broke radar lock to check for other targets(fighters!) Drop the external fuel tanks at 16,200lbs, or before if necessary. Attempting to dogfight/maneuver with them puts you at a huge disadvantage. The AIM-7 Sparrow is radar guided, not a fire and forget, you do understand the difference, right.

Wow, 6000ft are quite close to the ground. With 0.5 mach / 320kts (IAS) you are still too fast, try flying slower with full flaps and slats with around 160kts (notice the angle of attack for level flight), and leave a time gap of 10 (better 15) seconds between these bomb releases.
@tomsweepwinguser82335 жыл бұрын
It's still very economical to use LGB's since you can stack them in one weapon release slot (X,Y or Z) up to 5 or if you get cocky, leave the ECM pods and get all 7 and still release them one by one, which is unique to this type of weapon. It's a riddle to me whether this is the same "feature" in the real systems.

Loft bombing is one of 2 bombing types with the GPB to stay out of range of AAA and nearly clear of SAM . The other type is dive bombing from 17'000ft (16'500 ft is the height limit of SAM), diving best at an angle of -40° to -50° starting to pull up at 9000 ft (or around, maybe a bit higher). As accuracy decreases when pulling up the nose for loft bombing, it increases when the nose is pushed down towards the ground, turning the dropping arc more into a direct/ straight line.

Nowadays you only have high fidelity "make the best of it"-sims like DCS which is mainly for online flying (no dynamic campaign). You won't get any cold war stuff this good anywhere else. Yeah. LSOs typically have a fit with pilots catching the #1 or #4 wire. A pilot catches the #1 wire, s(he) would happen to land close to the ramp (the sternmost, curvy part of the flight deck). That pilot catches the #4 wire, s(he) would go near the front edge of the angled deck, which is a dangerous area given that the carrier moves from all sides and can throw the jet off to the side (i.e. the water).

00:35 to 00:46 is an excellent loft bombing sequence. In the game, the moment of impact is silent as the impact point is deemed to be out of ear-shot distance from the Tornado that is egressing. It is possible to hack the variable that allows sound to be activated so that when the bombs hit home, there is an explosion sound.

6:28 => Observe the left area in the cockpit view closely. You see a ALARM striking that AAA-contact and smoke afterwards. 7:23 => Small explosion due to ALARM missile hitting its target. 7:25 => Watch the area above the middle part of the red landing stripe: A SAM firing one off at me (smoke visible and the missile flying up). And now rethink: All this within around 11 MegaByte (correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I counted). How is this possible? And it was one authentic and immersive mission out of so many.

In 2001 I started exploring the game and quickly realized that I would need the manual in order to get the most benefit and enjoyment from the game, So in 2002 I got my Spectrum Holobyte copy from a Texan from eBay. I remember playing it so much then that whenever I was in a Head Of Departments meeting I would look at the table and image a Tornado streaking across the landscape at low level. I played it on my desktop with an original IBM monitor. The clearest and sharpest colors to play Tornado with. I have many flight sims and each one (ewpecially the Windows ones) I had to struggle with performance issues on my lowly spec computer. All except Tornado which remains my FAVOURITE after all these years. My best sim-moment was when I decided to switch off the lights and play Tornado in the dark. What an experience, racing towards the target waypoint and seeing the RWR display lighting up with threats. Every decision could be my last and the entire mission from takeoff to landing is an exercise of the mind and nerves,
