Ken San! Epic riding buddy. I really enjoy your vids and need to get out to Furano next season. Im heading to Niseko for a quick week this year and want to demo a couple of Gentem boards. Trying to decide between the Gentem Chaser and Chaser HP. I'm leaning towards the HP for my weight (72-73kg) but I'm a little unsure about boot size with 10 (Mondo 28). Can I ask what your boot size is and if you had an issues with drag? It seems with the waist and tail width I should theoretically be ok and like the idea of the more manoeuvrable HP for all resort riding. Thanks legend! Geoff

Would I need to size up for this if I were to get one for Japan? I'm thinking 149 as that puts my right in the upper middle/third of the weight range. Thanks and love your channel.

That was amazing tree riding! I demoed the gentem chaser in annupuri Niseko and loved it. 180cm and 88kg and it worked a charm in deep powder, it has a super fast base and rides unlike anything else I’ve tried. Only place where it struggled a little was on variable bumpy terrain and icy moguls but i don’t think that’s what the board was designed to ride l: I’m so close to buying one. I just need to demo the gentem giant mantaray. Anyone here have any thoughts on the giant manta

Hey mate just found your channel .. I really like your content.... Anyway, I've got a 2020 Mind Expander 158 and I'm in Japan most of Jan. I'm tossing up giving this board to my son who's meeting me there for a bit. What are your thoughts on the Surfer V the Mind Expander in terms of Deep pow performance and how they compare on groomers etc?
@japansnowboarder6582 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the kind words! I would be excited to ride the surfer out on the deep deep days just off-piste terrain. It’s quick and zippy in tight trees the swallow tail helps you sink the tail giving easy lift in the nose and turns on a dime. The surfer is powder specific. Mind expander would be my all round everyday board. Great in powder too and if you are taking any drops and launching off pillows then having the full tail for stability in landings is way better.
@japansnowboarder6582 жыл бұрын
I view the surfer as a surfboard and the mind expander as a skateboard. On groomers the Mind expander is just more playful, you have the tail for poping Ollies, ending up switch for a bit is fine does carve OK especially out of your turns with the canver in the back foot. Just carving then the Surfer LTD carves better being full canver profile with stiff tail flex for drive out of your turns but I wouldn’t really ride it around the resort.

How’s this compare to the ultra mind expander which I have in a 158 and could have gone bigger at 220 pounds but the dimensions on this are like the ultra , I’m looking for an upgrade something longer but am getting the feeling the ultra mind expander covers a lot all round would you agree ?

Quick question, can you share if you like Camber vs. Hybrid Rocker/Camber (rocker in center, camber under foot) for your riding style? The Pros and Cons of each type.
@japansnowboarder6582 жыл бұрын
Good question. I will have to do a video on this. I generally don`t like Camber for powder as I feel like it creates resistance to the flow of powder under the board so not a smooth and fast. Gentemstick's accel camber is different though. Check out the Chaser vid for explanation. If its icy under the powder this profile is my choice. If its a Hybrid rocker/Camber I like having camber only under the back foot which gives you more pop for jumps (and enough hold when carving on-piste) and flat to rocker from center to the nose which provides the board with easy float. Best all rounder both on and off-piste for me. Jones Mind expander is such a board. more Skaty in riding style. For deep powder my favourite profile is full rocker. Not that good on-piste for carving (easy to slide out) but gives it a surfy looser feel in the tale when turning in Pow. The Burton Deep Daze in this vid is full rocker and suits my style of riding. Capita spring break Tree Hunter is another I love to ride in deep pow. I like the full rocker profile in pow as I feel that the whole board flexes and springs nicely as one in and out of my turns. Hope that makes some sense.

Hey Ken, great review! Would you recommend sizing up when purchasing this board for Japan conditions? Do you prefer the 160 over the 152?
@japansnowboarder6582 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, cheers for ur kind words. One size up may be the go for Japan. 160 is too big for me but was good to experiment with. I think 152 is one size up for me when looking at
@japansnowboarder6582 жыл бұрын
When looking at their size recommendations. One size up would be better for float on the flatter section in the powder.

I wonder if Amplid POW snowboards would work well in Japow? The Morning Glory in particular should feel like smooth jazz on snow, and that is what I am daydreaming about since watching your video.

In my opinion the best review on this board. I was hesitating between the camel 2 and the party wave +, and I think I'll go for the camel 2 which seems more versatile. Thank you

Thanks Ken! Sick review!!! Glad you added the honest downside with the square nose catching in heavy pow. With you confirming that the Surfer carves well on groomers, and is quick in the tress, I am gonna have to pick one up!

Nice review! I am wondering what are the differences when you compared Chaser to Chaser HP? I am thinking to get one for Apls pow here in Switzerland…not sure what would fit better. Even considering the chockstick version of HP. Thanksv
@japansnowboarder6582 жыл бұрын
HP means high performance. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better. It is basically a narrower version of the Chaser so when carving you can get it from toe edge to heel edge and vice versa much easier. This board will improve your overall riding around the resort and still good in pow. The Chaser has a very wide outline so provides more float in deep powder. HP will be a little softer. HP great all round resort powder board, Chaser more for powder but I still have fun on this around the resort. make sure u check out my review on the Chaser HP if u haven’t already.
@bestrongphysio93039 ай бұрын
Can I ask what size boots you find work with the HP? Its the board I'm leaning towards but have mondo 28 so not sure if they will work with the HP version. @@japansnowboarder658

I begged you for this review last season, and you delivered! Thanks for the fire review Ken. Footage looked really good this round. Camera work seemed upgraded. More center focused, allowing you to really see how the nose rolled and the tail spit out the rooster. And the blue bird, DAMN!!! Might pull the trigger on this one, in 161. Just waiting to see the Surfer review, so I can decide which to add to the quiver first... BTW - top review request for next season would be the Amplid Surfari. Top of my list for a Japan freeride deck. I bet if you showed your channel to Peter Bauer they would find a way to get you some product. Those guys seem to love Japow. Keep em coming!!!

I tried the Storm Wolf last summer on a glacier's resort here in Italy and I agree with you on the type of long, drawn out kind of turns you can do with it. I own an Ultramind Expander and I believe it is a touch stiffer than this. Well, I also happen to own a 52 Storm Chaser and a 68 LoneWolf 🙃, the latter is not rocker to flat but rocker to camber, just like the Storm Wolf. When I'll come back to Hokkaido I'll bring them all (maybe not the 68 LoneW, but including my split Mind Exp.) and I agree with you that the SW is not a quiver killer for Japan's conditions

It is nice expression of what the different between the two 158 un 168. What is the strong point of it Moon buggy. But not sure to I will get it on my next board. I’m totally enjoy your video un subscribe your channel.

It’s the interesting feeling in the flex of the tail that is the strong (unique) point of this board.
